Three Tune Tuesday 🎶 Violent Femmes

By @seckorama1/27/2026hive-193816

Hello, music lovers! 🎵

On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when something reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.

Today's selection is as usual. Which means that I heard the band Violent Femmes on the radio in my car. And I wanted to get a little closer to my youth and enjoy the musical escapades of this exceptional and unique band together with you.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are the tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the gist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to, and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.

Violent Femmes is an American band from Milwaukee, founded in 1980. They started playing on the streets as an acoustic punk-folk band. Apparently, they played in front of the venue where The Pretenders were supposed to perform in order to earn some pocket money from people waiting for the concert. Well, the Pretenders' guitarist at the time heard them, liked them, and invited them to play a few songs on stage. The rest is history.
Their music is a mix of acoustic punk, folk, and country blues with personal, teenage, and rebellious themes such as frustration, sex, and religion. They have released ten albums to date and, with a slightly changed line-up, still perform almost regularly.

Here are some of the songs I like.

Violent Femmes - Gone Daddy Gone

The song is from their first album, Violent Femmes, from 1983, and it's about the breakdown of love, sadness, and anger. It's also one of their biggest hits. A dance mix of folk, blues, and rock 'n' roll. The xylophone stands out among the instruments; I don't know if I've ever heard it in a punk band before.

Violent Femmes - Heartache

The song is from the third album, 'The Blind Leading the Naked', released in 1986, fast rock 'n' roll boogie, and the revelation that love hurts.

Violent Femmes - American Music

The song American Music is from their fifth album, Why Do Birds Sing? released in 1991. Acoustic folk punk with a vintage shuffle rhythm and edgy, manic vocals. Sarcastic and self-deprecating commentary on music and life, in the US, of course.

As a bonus, their biggest hit, it's from the first album.

That's all for today, thank you for your attention.

This is my 84th post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started.
I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.
