Splinterlands App Is Back!

2025-05-09T18:35:42

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

On April 2, 2024, the Splinterlands mobile app has been deprecated in both Google Play and Apple Store in order for the Splinterlands team to focus on creating a mobile friendly website that will provide the best possible gaming experience to the community and have access to all of the features of the game. After continuously building and updating the site for the past year, we can all agree that the game was in a much better state than ever.

And now, finally, the Splinterlands Mobile App is back, at least for the Android users, which I think is pretty huge for the New Player Experience. In this post, I will walk you trough my experience using the Android App and my experience using it.

Problem With the Old App

One of the main issue with the old Splinterlands app is that it lacks many of the features that are present when playing the game in the browser such as tournaments and land gameplay. Aside from that, the team is switching all the site page on Tech Modernization along with additional mechanics and bug fixes on the site alone makes it difficult to maintain the app. This has lead to the old app to experience lots of bugs which sometimes resulted for players to fail submitting their teams or automatically lose when using certain cards, resulting to bad gaming experience. Because of this, the team had decided to deprecate the app to build the game first so that when the game is in a good enough state, they can focus their resources on building the Mobile App.

Mobile App Is Now Available on Google Playstore

After a year of waiting for a mobile app, Splinterlands is now once again available in the Google Playstore for Android device users as part of the May 7th maintenance which as of the writing of this post, already has been downloaded more than 500 times. To download the app, you can search the game on the playstore or click Here. As an Android phone user who plays the game on a daily basis, this is a very huge deal because I can play the game more conveniently during my office break hours without using any browsers or any extensions. Like while keychain is a good alternative to play the game in mobile, loading the game assets takes some time unlike compared to when it was on its own app. At the same time, having an app for the game makes it more legitimate and adds awareness to the game.

My Splinterlands App Experience

First of all, login in to the game can now be done not only through email and password but also through hive which makes it a lot easier since game transactions that needs access on keys to proceed will now be made with ease and I also like that they added the fingerprint scanner as an 2fa authentication so that in the of chance that your phone gets stolen or falls in the hands of a stranger, they will not be able to just access our game assets or tokens.

Since the game is not running on a Hive Keychain or a browser, the extra space that the website link eats is no longer there, giving the game more space which is vital for team creation phase. I also don't get any any error when submitting my team or any bad experience during the Tactics stage. Furthermore, features like tournaments and land management can now be done in the app so whether you want to participate in a tournament or craft your midnight potion is something you can do even when you were not playing on your computer.

I also do not get any issues when purchasing items on the Glint shop or Opening my Gladius packs. If I want to I can use the in- game market to either buy, sell or rent some cards and I could also access the presale page for the Conclave Arcana without any hassle as well as buy packs if I wanted to. I haven't played my brawls yet but I'm sure the experience is also quite smooth just like when I played tournaments.

Closing

So far that I am using the app, I haven't really experienced any bugs- minor or game breaking but rather, I can now enjoy playing the game much better as I could play the game wherever I can be. While we don't have an Apple app (which is more an Apple issue than Splinterlands), just having an app available for android users was very huge for mass adoption of the game and I hope the marketing team would capitalize along with the sale of Conclave Arcana.
Also, If you have time, maybe try to give a review and some love to the app too.
Thank you and see you at the next post.
