Chaos Legion Cards I will Missed in Modern Format

2025-05-03T14:51:39

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

In about 9 days, the presale period for conclave arcana will be concluded which as of the moment has sold more than 1 Billion DEC. Once that the presale ends, it will immediately be followed by the general sale which also means that card packs can be opened and used in ranked battle. This also means that Chaos Legion can only be used in Wild and Survival Mode.

Having played for many years in Modern, Chaos Legion cards has been the set that I formed deep attachment so I kind of feel sad as a manual player knowing that they will be no longer played in modern and there are cards that I will certainly missed playing particularly, the cards that I will list on this post beginning with summoners to units and specific abilities.

Summoners

Kelya Frendul
Among the 4-mana summoners, I think Kelya Frendul stands above as not only it gives additional speed that makes my team attack faster but also the additional armor that it gives saves my card from taking damage. Aside from that, majority of the water cards just synergize well when played with this summoner.
Lux Vega
Many has called Lux Vega as the "Kelya 2.0" with an additional health stat boost and cost additional mana cost but what makes is special was that it was the first ever Neutral summoner so it can be played as a summoner in any element except dragon. It is also an exclusive promo card that was part of the Splinterfest, the first ever live gathering of Splinterlands players.
Immortalis
Before Immortalis was airdropped, I'd say that the CL Earth team was very weak due to how most of the Earth cards were very slow but as soon that Immortalis becomes part of the set, it significantly boost the Earth cards with its Shatter that could destroy any amount of armor the opponent has while it's Void has make it difficult for magic units to inflict significant damage.
Lily Shieldpaw
I would not say that it was as strong summoner as Immortalis when it comes to its abilities but it has become a part of the early Rebellion Meta for Grimbardun Smith. Just place Grimbardun Smith as a tank and place a bunch of healers to sustain the damage it receives as the opponent cannot directly attack any other monster than it directly due to Camouflage ability

Units and Abilities

Countess Sinash

Calling it as the Queen of Opportunity is just appropriate as this card could really do serious damage not only to its target but also on adjacent units due to it's blast ability. Even if the card survives, the chances for them to heal becomes low because it has Affliction and while it has a very low health, opponents could not attack it directly since it can hide with Camouflage.

Baakjira

Although it does not have any attack damage, Baakjira was pretty much the best non-damage tank in Chaos Legion with its enormous health and ability to self heal. Furthermore it also has Void to reduce magic damage and Slow to reduce the opponent's speed.

Merdaali Guardian

Merdaali Guardian is among the best support cards in Chaos Legion set. With just only 3 mana it has both Tank Heal and Repair to sustain the damage that my team could get. It's one weakness is that it does not have attack but with Weapon's Training card it can be a wreak havoc in battles.

Deeplurker

Deepluker was a very powerful Opportunity unit for a common card that not only reduce the melee attacks of the opponent but also inflicts Poison to opponent when it attacks. Given that it only cost 6 mana, it is very flexible to use whether on mid and high mana battles.

Acid Shooter

For a low cost of 2 mana, Acid Shooter becomes pretty relevant with the release of Rebellion, for its ability to randomly attack an opponent card and afflict them with Poison.

Goblin Psychic

It may not be the most powerful earth magic card but what it does is to Silence the opponent to have their magic reduced while providing support with it's Tank Heal. With the recent Lily-Smith meta, this has played a significant role to help sustain Grimbardun Smith's health.

Pelacor Conjurer

Pelacor Conjurer is a very powerful tank in low mana battles. Having both Flying and Phase, it can evade any types of attacks and the first time that it was hit will be nullified with Divine Shield. It was a great tank specially for magic units cause it could reflect back their attack to the opponent since it has Magic Reflect.

Adelade Brightwing

Adelade Brightwing is a great support card that not only provides additional speed and repairs armor but can also has revive an ally monster once. It was one of the most essential cards to full the best of Iziar's Martyr to give ally units twice the stat boost.

Jared Scar

Despite it being very slow and not a suitable tank, Jared Scar has been one of my favorite melee unit to play during Super Sneak, Equal Opportunity and Melee Mayhem rulesets as even if it was slow, it's attacks will surely hit the target and it's attacks will pierce through opponents armor. As it defeats its target, it will become stronger with the power of Bloodlust and its just so fun to see how much stronger it can go at the end of the battle.

Inevitable

Pretty much the best among the Riftwatcher airdrop card. Not only has it immunity that makes it immune to negative status attacks, it also got Shield and Repair that makes it a powerful support unit that can also act as a tank.

Chaos Dragon

This card does not get it's name for nothing. It spreads Chaos through Scattershot which can also blasted the units adjacent to the target and the addition of Blind just makes Chaos Dragon as well as the entire team much difficult to hit

Doctor Blight

Doctor Blight has been the staple for most of my battles whether it has low or high mana because of its Affliction and Poison which makes my opponent card to lose health and unable to heal and still be safe from most attacks due to its Camouflage. Even at Poison ruleset, I usually use it because it has Scavenger that allow it to get health every time a monster was defeated.

Little League Sneakers
Little League is one of my favorite ruleset and that was because the cards usually does not have much health, making the battle end early and with Sneak, cards can attack the backline of the opponent which usually where the most vulnerable cards were placed.
The Martyrs
Martyr cards has allowed adjacent units to gain stats boost when the card was defeated, kind of like the opposite of Bloodlust. This allows your team to get to become more powerful with the death of an ally card so it has been used in many plays specially on Noxious Fumes where they could die immediately or Born Again where Martyr can be triggered multiple times. It seems that Martyr will not be present on Conclave Arcana core set so they will be really missed.
Soulbound Trainers
Unlike Martyr, Weapon's Training cards will remain in Conclave Arcana but why I would miss this cards are because they were all reward cards which I got free from playing the game. The cards present in Rebellion and in Conclave Arcana are from packs so I need to purchase them and I don't think we will get new Weapon's Training reward cards for the foreseeable future.
Forcefield Cards
Another ability that will not be present in Conclave Arcana was Forcefield for it has become the Kryptonite to any cards that has 5 damage or more and has been a constant source of stress for those who plays with Venka or Heloise the Hollow but for me who doesn't have those cards the only way that I have a chance to defeat them is through Forcefield so losing them in modern will not only make me miss them but will also change my gameplay strategy.

Closing

So yeah... Chaos Legion will be gone in Modern format in just a few more days. As a player that started playing the game, it is sad to not see them in the game format where I play and as of now, I do not have any plans to play in Wild nor Survival but I also do not plan of selling them off. The alternative would be to work them on land specially now that utilities are being introduced to them starting with the midnight potion.
Thank you and see you at the next post.
