Once a year my uncle's house is the protagonist of a family reunion, which is long awaited among all of us to share and enjoy the company of those members of the external family that we rarely see and with whom we have minimal contact.
Every year we gather to commemorate the passing of our grandparents, those who were the builders of this great family, which today has become very large. For the reunion a mass is held on behalf of the grandparents, in my family most of them are Catholic so everyone attends.
On that occasion we all gather to reaffirm family ties and update each other on the life events of those with whom we speak little. Curiosity invades at every gathering to find out how they are doing and what those we have not seen for a long time look like.
Some are thinner, others fatter, some with the years already shown on their faces. The illnesses that are not lacking, those who have prospered after so much sacrifice. The new family members that join, by the way, this year two new people arrive to the family and many are happy for the new babies that are on the way.
This reunion would not be complete without a very important element, which in our country is something that cannot be missed, coffee. Our precious dark coffee makes its presence in this unique and annual event, from the youngest to the oldest enjoy the caffeine nectar.
Since the afternoon, those in charge of the family reunion get ready to prepare the coffee, a huge pot is the protagonist of that moment of preparation. Most of my relatives still do not drink coffee without sugar, so this is a very important ingredient to accompany our delicious coffee, it is a pity.
To accompany the coffee, every year something different is given, sometimes they buy empanadas, other times they buy envueltos or some other food delicacy native to the region. On this occasion, they have bought some delicious Croissants, crunchy and with an exquisite aroma. The breads will be the perfect accompaniment to our delicious coffee.
Once the religious ceremony is over, and people start talking about various current issues, in the kitchen begins the hurried movement, from one side to another women and men run to start serving coffee. The delicious nectar begins to flow through each cup, like a river of incredible flavor and aroma.
The cups filled with coffee, and the Croissants are placed on wooden trays, to begin to be distributed among the attendees. The eyes begin to shine as the trays parade with coffee and breads, one by one they take a cup with coffee and a Croissant. The cups are dancing between the mouths and the coffee invades each taste bud. The gestures of satisfaction and joy dominate the atmosphere making it more cordial and friendly, that is the power that coffee has.
Thus, amidst laughter and conversation, the meeting comes to an end. Little by little people are retiring to return to their work the next day, but we are always happy for the annual get-together and reunite with those we do not see every day. It will be until next year to meet again and enjoy a social coffee of friendship, affection and cordiality.
