Rentmoney been strolling along the Foundation path within ranked play in the game known as Splinterlands and we been having lots of fun doing so.

Today I woke up and did my normal daily routine. Had a little breakfast, some toast and ham washed down with a nice cold glass of H20. Hit the Foundation ranked play battle-field and noticed something. The Frontier draw took place. I only had a dozen or so entries so I wasn't expecting to hit anything but to my surprise I managed to snag a Black Foil common Death card known as Nim Guard Captain. Black foil cards are always at max leveling capacity. Considering I'm currently trying to max a Foundation set this drop was a welcomed surprise. Considering my play was mainly in the Bronze league this card worth $8.50+ is an interesting drop to say the least.

As you can see above. A common Black Foil Foundation card maxes at Level 5. The current listed price for a Black Foil Nin Guard Captain is $8.50. Currently there is only two of these on the market. The second is listed for $8.90. Looking at the Black Foil market of the Foundation set I can see Death common card prices ranging from $4.39 - $8.50 USD . Death variants of the Common variety for the set known as Conclave Arcana start at a listed price of $62.99 USD. There's a wide range of awesome cards to choose from regardless of what set you fancy. Black Foils and Black Foil variants are unique to the Foundation and Conclave Arcana set. You won't find these in the OG sets such as Alpha, Beta, Orbs or UNTAMED nor in Chaos Legion.

I'm slightly tempted to list my Black Foil for sale and use the potential earnings to purchase a Black Foil card or two that are listed for half the price of the one I got dropped. I'll hang onto it for now. With a speed of three combined with Dodge and a seven Health that is protected by five shield Nim Guard Captain will come in very handy on the ranked battlefield. Looks like I have mint number 126. Mint number 6 ($8.50) and mint number 127 ($8.90) are for sale on the official market found on Splinterlands.

Lets take a look at all the Back Foil Death Common cards available for purchase on the official Splinterlands market. In total we have seven of the Foundation/ Conclave Arcana variants available. Their listed trade value ranges from $4.20 USD to $82.00 USD. Looks like Nin Guard Captain is on the higher end of Foundation set. Of course anyone can list cards for whatever sale value they wish to. Always do your research before handing over your currencies for any card, asset, real world item, or otherwise.

The Death fraction was always my favorite fraction within the Splinterlands game so I'm more than happy to have hit a Death variant card as my first dropped Black Foil card. I'd also like to note (again) that I just had a dozen or so raffle tickets for this draw and was in the Bronze league while earning those raffle tickets. It doesn't take much to compete in the Bronze League. In-fact you can get started today in SPL for free by completing campaign mode. Theoretically this is a $8.50+ drop that easily could of been earned with just the purchase of a Spellbook. Nim Guard Captain Lore
As seen on Splinterlands
Venari are small and wiry rodentians with twitching noses, sharp reflexes, and sharper tempers. Their societies are built around colonies ranging from a few dozen to tens of thousands, led by dominant individuals who rise through cunning, strength, or sheer force of will. Assertive, territorial, and relentlessly curious, venari pursue anything that glitters—whether knowledge, power, or literal shiny objects—with single-minded fervor. Desire comes first. Morality, if it comes at all, lags far behind. What matters most is the hoard.
One of the largest venari colonies in Praetoria, the Broken Earth Clan, dwells beneath the Daigenloft Mountains, in a vast cavern of the Lower Daigendark known as Gonach Hollow. “Clan” is a generous term; it’s more a shifting alliance of rival factions, each maneuvering for control of the hollow’s dwindling resources. Power changes hands with alarming frequency. Disputes end in backroom deals, sabotage, or quiet disappearances. Few things last in Gonach Hollow. Not loyalties. Not leaders.
The Nim are among the few stable factions within the clan. They’re orderly, tight-lipped, and well-supplied. They control the western burrows, where Guard Captain Tarnik keeps the peace with a quiet resolve that outlasts most threats. Calm while others rage, focused while others posture, he enforces what passes for law not through cruelty, but through sheer, stubborn endurance.
It’s a thankless task. Every shift brings new fires to stamp out: turf disputes, missing shipments, murder, and worse. Much worse. He faces them all with weary pragmatism and just enough edge to keep the worst at bay. He’s not loved. He’s not feared. But in a place where both can be bought, that suits him fine.
He still carries the same sword he wielded as a youth, not because it’s valuable, but because it means something. In Gonach Hollow, not much does.
