🦉 The European robin (Erithacus rubecula)

  • Erithacus erithakos (Greek) unidentified small bird in
the works of ancient authors; erythros (Greek, lat.) red
    • rubecula ruber (lat.) red, reddish, rubeculus diminished. by ruber

I took these photos in mid-October. And it's very strange! After all, these are insectivorous birds, and they should have flown away long ago, by early September. There were two of these birds, bustling about in the thickets near the swamp. I think they were in the process of migrating and stopped to rest before heading off.

I've seen videos of these birds staying over winter in city parks, but of course, that's not the case in my cold and snowy region. In that video, a kind person fed the poor bird crushed peanuts, and the bird ate them, despite being entirely insectivorous.
