"Normal" Universal

A short transcription vid that contains, starting at the 5:45 mark, a description of the strange universe of the "conservative" - pondered on previously here. I felt some of the points briefly touched on seemed accurate- so I'll cosign some of the thoughts with my own.

It is absolutely true that for conservatives, any sufficiently universal malady is generally written off as more or less inevitable, ordained, and therefore unworthy of consideration- Serious discussion of anything that touches a broad swathe is more or less disregarded- being both simultaneously regarded as some inherent property of the universe, as well as simply not subject to change, or possibly some part of the fallen nature of the cosmos - nevertheless the apparent universality of a thing seems to pique a kind of resignation and negativity.

It does seem to turn the state of the known, that is " Normal" with a capital N, into a kind of metaphysics. One sees the Normal intoned quite regularly- and the lack of such is considered a disturbance. The "Normal" is the set of parameters, and there is the very intense insistence that they must all be the same for everyone - thus one will see all manner of discussions about uniqueness dismissed with "but that is normal".

the Normal is also the true " inexplicable cause" - and to will away from it in some manner is to be fated to destruction - all other projects other than theirs were fated to fail eventually. Conservatives are the sort that expects everyone to "grow out of it" and come to their senses- typically defined as "Normal" circa 1985.

It is when there is a large scale deviation from Normal so defined that reference to unseen actors begins- with some popular ones at present being in no particular order- Tik Tok, Social Contagion, Mass Formation Psychosis, etc

Because such a wide swath of things are regarded simply as Normal, and not subject to social or even sometimes technologically based construction- the notion that conservatives can view themselves as functionally unbounded makes sense- in the view of " I'm free in so far as it matters". In this regard, they often make the most effort of small, everyday things or at work- because they perceive these things as being within the realm of reasonably attainable agency. I think this is also why one so often finds them so rankled by sometimes seemingly small affairs or cultural insults- because they seem controllable.

It is also fatalistic- in that, anything which is placed into the bin of universality is not worth trying on- and into this bin go all manner of very grim assumptions that do form a kind of portal to negativity- but the conservative is characterized by silence on the matter- and the typical manifestation of all of this is the void of non-discussion.
