These Three Trees

By @puddles2/28/2018sculpture

These replications of trees are made from one original tree, that I cut down with a hand saw and deconstructed.

I think the main tree is 12-13 feet tall, with a span of 10 feet. Transporting the three of them from my studio, to the gallery was a task of its own, but was accomplished primarily by myself.

Each of the trees were made separately, with over 30 feet of 2inch rope made to connect them all.

Every branch had been cut off in the deconstruction phase, down to the next to the smallest. In reconstructing the trees, I used sisal rope, tying each one individually, then to each other to create new branches. There were hundreds of connections made using this method.

They were displayed in the gallery long enough to get these pictures. Then, I brought them home.

The smaller two trees were in a show in May 2017.

The larger tree makes a statement, but it it too awkward to transport, needs repairs because of wind damage, or investment in a box truck (which its height may still prohibit).

I think I am going to cut it up and burn it.

Cheers!
