How to get those knots out!

use at your own discretion, this is best used with a doctor.
One big thing about physical therapy is the massages we perform, but everyone loves a nice, relaxing massage, whereas we like to give deep tissue massages. We will find those trigger points, everyone has them especially in our back where we carry most of our stress.

The picture above shows where you are most likely to see trigger points, the bigger red dots are where the trigger points are most commonly found. Those main two areas are within our hip and our upper back.

So what are trigger points? When the myofascia (fascia that covers your muscles) is overused or there is trauma it can tear and adhear together. These adhesions are the trigger points and they can prevent the muscles from working well.

So what is the best way getting out these stubborn trigger points? The best way is to find the trigger points, take your thumb, or your two fingers, or even your elbow and press down on the specific trigger point, you want to hold it for 30-60 seconds, depending on how big and stubborn the trigger point is. This is the uncomfortable part of the massage where patients feel pain and discomfort. Afterwards the patient might feel a little dizzy, or have a headache, please have them drink lots of water.

I would like yo remind everyone that I am still a student, and still in the learning process. Thank you for reading! I hope this blog is helpful for trigger points, if you have any questions please let me know.
