*Every citizen of any country has at least one thing they wish they could do to make their country better. Well, for my country, 99.9% of us has at least 20 things we wish we could do and feel will make the country a better place for us. And, 2 to 5 from the list of these 20 things might be addressing just an one aspect of the entire country. No, don't think that way, my country is not bad: maybe we aren't just ready to cause the change we clamour for.
Countries are doing better than themselves when compared using several factors like GDP, technology,economy, health, security amd military power, food, work, infrastructure, etc. Well, my country is on another whole level. We are second to none when it comes to the problems we have or believe we have. If I would change two things about my country up on being the President of Nigeria, I'd really love to do these;
Make basic amenities readily and easily available
I have come to realise that the first few things that destabilizes a country and her people is when getting basic needs is no longer easy– when basic amenities become scare to get or require working more than usual. It is really bad you can't afford or get basic things like food, water, electricity, good road network and even shelter. Restoring easy access to all basic amenities will be my first priority to making the courty a better place. Why ? This is because this issue affects majority, close to 75% of the whole population. It's either they can get it but by doing more work or paying more or they can't get it at all.
I strongly believe that once the masses begin to have all basic things a citizen ought to have, many problem will be solved automatically. Problems like theft of all sorts, kidnapping, insecurity, cheating, corruption in all its forms, even up to lying and deceit would reduce drastically. Major problems in my country are traced to lack or insufficient access to basic amenities. This has even shaped certain people mindset that they use the excuse of lack of basic amenities to justify the bad things they do.
The second thing I'd love to do as the President of Nigeria is
Freedom and power to fight against any government
This is a long term goal and would take a while to be achieved: Nigerians themselves would understand this. Many decades ago, the great grannies were more of the kind of people that accept whatever the government throw at them, be it truth or not, they accept it. There were no record of people standing up as one against the government, they fear the power that the government has through legal and illegal ways. So, they'd rather stick to what the government give to them and save their lives rather than to die fighting for.
This same mindset was passed down generations after generation until late 2020: the greatest ( and toughest) opposition the citizen of Nigeria had ever thrown at their government. It seems this class of citizen were tired of being told the cliche "that's how the government has been since the 1990s" each time they try to express themselves. The elderly will always tell us not to go up against the government, because it never worked in their time. You know why– they never fought together as one, they fought as tribes and clans, separately.
Well, in 2020, the youths did it differently. We fought in unity, using all means and mostly advanced way like the internet to air our opinions, while showing up physically, cryptocurrency to donate to and support the movement. We scheduled peaceful protests in all cities of every states in the country. We made some changes, but with great sacrifice. Was it worth it ? Yes, it was!!
With the influence of the office of the president I will put in my people the belief that they can fight for whatever they deserve, change that filthy mindset of "the government has more power than it's people", "let's just bare with it or find bare minimum alternatives". And I will also see to to that legally, citizens can fight and win for what they want.
Struggling to have what is one's right is so bad when someone or set of people decides to be the dictator of over 95% of a country's population.....and almost nothing is done about it.
Other things I'd love to do being the President of Nigeria is to advance education. Introduce new and latest version of all aspects of education and make it free for the inse that can be. We are lagging behind at many areas of education. Make it possible to be the real Giant of Africa that we are, in words and actions, not just a title. We have the resources, we have the people, we have the places, all that remains is to take action together.
