I like you. I am like you. What is the difference between both? What is similar between both.
Like denotes similarities, but in an expression such as, "I like you", it tends to connote emotional reaction. In an expression such as, "I am like you", it connotes any form of comparison between two persons - in this case, similarities.
The difference between both is in their application. They are both similar in the following sense: if you like what I like, I will result like you. In other words, philosophically, you are what you accept. You accept what you like because you are like that thing - similar to it and essentially attracted to it.
