Warmest greetings to all my dear friends! There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm bowl of porridge — especially when it’s made with nutritious ingredients like sago pearls and finger millet flour. This unique blend brings together the soft, soothing texture of sago and the earthy, nutrient-rich goodness of finger millet (kurakkan) flour. A beloved staple in many Sri Lankan kitchens, this porridge is not only satisfying but also packed with health benefits — rich in fiber, calcium, and iron. Whether served as a wholesome breakfast or an energizing midday meal, every spoonful of this porridge offers both flavor and nourishment.

Materials Used.

3 Tablespoon of Finger millet flour .
Sago 25g.
Sugar 30g.
Hot water 200ml.
1/2 teaspoon of Salt.
2 crushed cardamom pods.
Coconut milk 200ml.

The cooking process as follows.

First, let's soak the sago pearls in water for about 5 minutes to soften them.
Next, take a bowl and add the finger millet flour to it. Then, add some coconut milk and mix well.
Next, take a pan and place it on the stove over low heat. Add the sugar and let it melt slowly. As it begins to caramelize and turn golden brown, carefully add a small amount of hot water. Stir gently and continue to cook until the sugar is fully caramelized and well blended with the water.
Now, let's add the soaked sago and the prepared finger millet (kurakkan) mixture into the caramelized sugar. Stir everything well and cook gently for about two minutes, allowing all the ingredients to combine beautifully into a warm, nourishing blend.
Finally, add a pinch of salt and some cardamom to the mixture, and continue to cook it until it reaches a slightly thick consistency.
Once prepared, this Sago and Finger Millet Porridge becomes a warm and wholesome bowl of nourishment — perfect for anyone seeking a simple yet satisfying meal. Whether sweetened with jaggery or enjoyed as it is with its subtle flavors, this porridge can be adapted to your taste and is always best when shared. Until next time, may every meal nourish both your body and soul. Have a wonderful day!
