Saludos amigos
Quiero compartirles en esta publicación, cómo celebré el día de las madres el pasado domingo once de mayo, gracias a mis cinco hijos, que me hicieron una invitación muy especial a un lugar que me gusta mucho por sus maravillosos paisajes y su cultura: la Colonia Tovar.
<I want to share with you in this publication, how I celebrated Mother's Day last Sunday, May 11th, thanks to my five children, who made me a very special invitation to a place that I like very much for its wonderful landscapes and culture: Colonia Tovar.
En compañía de una de mis hijas, que vive conmigo, ya que cuatro de ellos viven en otros países, nos fuimos muy temprano desde la ciudad de Maracay hasta la ciudad de La Victoria, como a una hora de camino para desde allí tomar el bus que llega hasta la Colonia Tovar.
In the company of one of my daughters, who lives with me, since four of them live in other countries, we left very early in the morning from the city of Maracay to the city of La Victoria, about an hour away, to take the bus from there to Colonia Tovar.
La Colonia Tovar fue fundada en el año 1843 por inmigrantes, en su mayoría alemanes y algunos franceses, en un lugar rodeado de montañas a muchos kilómetros de los centros poblados. Allí los primeros colonos crearon un pueblo agrícola con las características típicas del lugar de Alemania de donde provenían, el ducado de Braden.
Colonia Tovar was founded in 1843 by immigrants, mostly German and some French, in a place surrounded by mountains many kilometers from the population centers. There, the first settlers created an agricultural village with the typical characteristics of the place in Germany where they came from, the Duchy of Braden.
El recorrido por la carretera que conduce a la Colonia es impresionante. Las curvas a través de las montañas, la altura y la vista de precipicios de muchos metros en el borde de la vía, en algunos tramos, me produjo la sensación de vértigo, pero también de admiración. Son mas de 2000 metros de altura.
The drive along the road leading to the Colonia is impressive. The curves through the mountains, the height and the view of cliffs of many meters on the edge of the road, in some sections, gave me the feeling of vertigo, but also of admiration. It is more than 2000 meters high.
Las casas típicas alemanas rodeadas de cultivos de hortalizas y frutales nos dicen que ya estamos llegando. El bus nos dejó cerca del centro, que es la zona turística y comercial, y entre subidas y bajadas y un clima fresco, pero soleado, mi hija y yo comenzamos a recorrer la ciudad.
The typical German houses surrounded by vegetable and fruit crops tell us that we are already arriving. The bus left us near the center, which is the tourist and commercial area, and between ups and downs and a cool but sunny weather, my daughter and I started touring the city.
Visitamos la iglesia, la plaza, el mercado donde las frutas y los dulces se ven deliciosos. En esta zona, por su clima, se cultivan muy bien las hortalizas, fresas, moras, frambuesas, arándanos y duraznos.
We visited the church, the square, the market where the fruits and sweets are delicious. In this area, due to its climate, vegetables, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and peaches grow very well.
Compramos una bandeja que tenía un poco de cada fruta y una que no conocía y que me gustó mucho: la uchuva, una planta de la familia del tomate. Es muy jugosa y tiene un sabor agridulce, un poco astringente.
We bought a tray that had a little of each fruit and one that I did not know and that I really liked: the cape gooseberry, a plant of the tomato family. It is very juicy and has a sweet and sour taste, a bit astringent.
No podía dejar de comer las rosquitas dulces, son mis preferidas y también los alfajores, y quedé con ganas de probar las tartaletas, las conservas, todos los dulces se veían muy ricos.
I couldn't stop eating the rosquitas dulces, they are my favorite and also the alfajores, and I wanted to try the tartlets, the preserves, all the sweets looked very tasty.
La caminata nos dio hambre y ya era mediodía, decidimos almorzar, por supuesto, un plato típico alemán: salchichas, col agria y ensalada de papás, complementada con chuleta ahumada y salsas.
The hike made us hungry and it was already noon, we decided to have lunch, of course, a typical German dish: sausages, sour cabbage and potato salad, complemented with smoked cutlet and sauces.
Salimos del restaurante muy satisfechas y decidimos seguir caminando para bajar la comida y para ver la artesanía y entrar al museo de la Colonia.
We left the restaurant very satisfied and decided to continue walking to bring down the food and to see the handicrafts and enter the museum of the Colonia.
El museo está lleno de recuerdos de los primeros colonos que se atrevieron a dejar su tierra, atravesar el océano y aventurarse a hacer su nuevo hogar en tierras venezolanas. Eran agricultores, artesanos, carpinteros, constructores, albañiles. Familias completas que se asentaron entre estas montañas que de alguna manera le recordaban su lugar de origen.
The museum is full of memories of the first settlers who dared to leave their land, cross the ocean and venture to make their new home in Venezuelan lands. They were farmers, artisans, carpenters, builders, bricklayers. Entire families who settled among these mountains that somehow reminded them of their place of origin.
Yo siento una especial conexión con este lugar porque mi abuelo era alemán y no sé si es algo que llevo en los genes, pero siento admiración por estas personas valientes que se atrevieron a salir y aún despues de tantos años han mantenido sus costumbres pero también se han adaptado a las nuestras.
I feel a special connection with this place because my grandfather was German and I don't know if it's something I carry in my genes, but I feel admiration for these brave people who dared to leave and even after so many years have kept their customs but have also adapted to ours.
La tarde era hermosa y debido a la hora, nos dirijimos hacia la parada de buses. Alli tuvimos que esperar un poco a que se llenara el bus y aprovechamos de tomarnos un cafecito y de conversar sobre tipos de café con la señora del puesto de venta, muy simpática, quien nos contó que en la Colonia hay una procesadora del café, que allí se cultiva.
The afternoon was beautiful and due to the time, we headed to the bus stop. There we had to wait a little while for the bus to fill up and we took the opportunity to have a cup of coffee and talk about types of coffee with the very nice lady at the stand, who told us that in Colonia there is a coffee processing plant that grows there.
El bus se lleno y salimos esta vez directo a Maracay, lo cual nos ahorro el tiempo de llegada. El camino a través de la montaña tenía otra tonalidad y yo veía con cierta nostalgia las casas entre los cultivos y pensé que maravilloso debe ser vivir en esa tranquilidad. Agradecí a mis hijos y a Dios por este día y por llegar con bien a nuestro hogar, con el deseo de volver.
The bus was full and we left this time straight to Maracay, which saved us the time of arrival. The road through the mountain had a different tone and I saw with some nostalgia the houses among the crops and thought how wonderful it must be to live in that tranquility. I thanked my children and God for this day and for arriving home safely, with the desire to return.
