Sometimes the greatest struggle in life is simply to move forward. The circumstances of life can seem to overwhelm us. Faith responds in obedience when called. The person of faith will move forward when the world around us is falling to pieces. Abraham's vision through faith was strong. He could see the future God desired for him and everyone else. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to take the step of trust. That first step is crucial because it starts us on the journey toward God's blessing.
Abraham went out not knowing where he was going (11:8). This type of faith is entirely forward looking. In fact, to accomplish anything in life one has to be able to look forward. Faith, or simple trust in God allows us to see things others cannot or will not. Abraham's faith was not luck or blind credulity. Rather, Abraham's faith was borne of relationship and obedience. The relationship allowed him to move forward. Abraham's simple trust in God and willingness to follow changed the course of history. When we place our trust in God and are willing to trade all that we are, He will be faithful to bring His full power to work for our good. (Romans 8:28). Abraham shows us three important first steps. 1: Hear God's call (His word) 2: Obey God's Call 3: Take the first step.
