At its base, Tlon’s Urbit replaces the lambda calculus.
In the middle, Urbit is a new functional programming language. At the top, Urbit is a purely functional network operating system to make Urbit address spaces, properties.
Urbit creates a new layer over the internet like the Internet layers over PSTNs, which, Urbit posits, earns adoption with its own internet services.
Thus, Urbit variously describes itself as:

• Virtual city of general-purpose personal servers
• Clean~slate global computing platform
