I started reading Iseop’s Romance a week ago; unexpectedly, I devoured all 72 available episodes in just a few days (it’s currently ongoing after a hiatus). I've always enjoyed chaebol romance stories for their dramatic and comedic flair. They flow so smoothly.

I'm a huge fan of K-dramas; I've lost count of how many I've watched over the years. Many of these productions are adaptations of shoujo manhwas like this one. This story is similar to the manhwa What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, although there are many differences, as the romance here stems from the protagonists' indecision. In What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, romance ignites after Secretary Kim’s resignation; in Iseop’s Romance, it starts with Iseop Tae’s actions.

The story is adapted from a web novel and is published on Naver. I decided to read this manhwa because of its genre—I wanted to try something different. Recently, I've been reading a lot of fantasy, action, and gore stories. Part of me needed something extremely romantic and dramatic.

At first, Iseop Tae continuously claims that he hates Secretary Mingyeong Kang, but there’s actually a deeper story behind his words. The "hatred" he loudly professes is, in reality, a strange feeling he doesn't fully understand—one that goes beyond mere lust.

As for the manhwa’s artwork, it’s incredibly immersive. The characters are very well-defined. I noticed that the artist isn’t particularly skilled at drawing buildings, but the characters are stunning. They pay close attention to small details—some more impressive than others. There's even an incredible close-up scene of Iseop Tae’s pupils and eyelashes that I deeply appreciated.

The story unfolds impeccably, though there’s one aspect that creates significant tension and anxiety: the slow burn of the romance. You keep wondering when the two protagonists will finally break the barrier between boss and employee. Crossing that line feels like biting into forbidden fruit—something neither truly believes belongs to them. Both Secretary Mingyeong Kang and Director Iseop Tae are aware of this.

I want to highlight the intriguing personalities of the protagonists.
Iseop Tae is a businessman—hard to understand and seemingly impenetrable at first glance—but deep down, he’s a vulnerable man who suffers in many ways. This suffering could paint a bleak picture of him, but in reality, he was raised to never show his emotions.

Secretary Mingyeong Kang, on the other hand, is tough, loves mathematics, and is a top performer in everything she does. She’s an intelligent woman who overcomes any adversity and is TK Group’s secret weapon. Although she is beautiful, she always dresses in the same plain manner, not caring about fashion or appearances. (This, of course, eventually changes—for reasons you can probably guess.)

Both protagonists know they like each other—it wasn't a sudden realization. However, Secretary Mingyeong Kang believes that Iseop Tae’s feelings for her are purely lustful. Some scenes support this assumption, especially considering his dreams and thoughts about her (poor guy can't even get a peaceful night’s sleep).

The comedy in the manhwa is well-balanced and never intrusive. I particularly like how it’s introduced at key moments.
The romantic scenes are also detailed beautifully, and the sexy moments are very well drawn. There are no explicit scenes, as this isn’t that type of manhwa, although the original web novel might contain some (I’m not entirely sure—just an impression based on the latest chapters I read).

The plot explores both characters’ weaknesses, strengths, and workaholic tendencies. They are unique individuals destined to be together, despite the South Korean societal norms that try to separate them. They’re perfect for each other—but now, they must face their greatest challenge: accepting, revealing, and embracing their love.

Siempre me han gustado las historias de romance de chaebol por ese toque dramático y de comedia que les caracteriza. Son dramas demasiado fluidos.
Yo soy fan de K-drama; he perdido la cuenta de cuántos he visto hasta ahora. Muchas de estas producciones son adaptaciones de manhwa shoujo como este. Esta historia es similar al manhwa What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, aunque posee muchas diferencias porque el romance parte de las indecisiones de los dos protagonistas. En What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, el romance explota por la renuncia de la secretaria Kim; en Iseop’s Romance, nace por parte de Iseop Tae.

Respecto al arte del manhwa, es demasiado envolvente. Los personajes están muy bien definidos. Lo que noté es que el artista no es muy bueno dibujando edificaciones, pero los personajes son increíbles. Incluso considera pequeños detalles, unos más impresionantes que otros. Dibujó una escena de pupilas y pestañas de Iseop Tae increíblemente. Aprecio ese detalle.
La historia se desarrolla de manera impecable, pero hay algo que te angustia y crea un estado de ansiedad horrible y es la falta de arranque del romance. Es decir, cuando los dos protagonistas deciden romper el límite de jefe y empleada. Romper ese límite significa morder una fruta prohibida o que no te pertenece. Tanto la secretaria Mingyeong Kang como el director Iseop Tae lo saben.
En esta reseña quiero destacar la personalidad de los protagonistas, que es intrigante. En el caso de Iseop Tae, es un hombre de negocios, uno difícil de comprender e impenetrable a simple vista, pero en realidad es una persona débil y que sufre de múltiples maneras. Ese sufrimiento puede generar una definición lamentable sobre él, pero en realidad lo criaron para que no mostrara sus emociones.
En el caso de la secretaria Mingyeong Kang, es una mujer tosca, amante de las matemáticas y la primera en todo. Sí, es una mujer inteligente que siempre supera cualquier adversidad y es el arma secreta de los negocios de TK. Debo destacar que la secretaria Mingyeong Kang es hermosa, pero siempre se viste del mismo modo. No se preocupa por la moda o los atuendos. Esto cambia; ya debes entender cuál es el motivo.
Ambos protagonistas saben que se gustan; no es algo que ocurriera de la noche a la mañana. Sin embargo, para la secretaria o subdirectora Mingyeong Kang, lo que siente el director Iseop Tae por ella es solo lujuria. En algunas escenas puede notarse de ese modo debido a sus pensamientos y sueños sobre ella (pobre hombre, no tiene una noche en paz).
La comedia en el manhwa es equilibrada y no interviniente. Particularmente, me gusta como es introducida en puntos clave. En el caso de las partes románticas, están muy bien detalladas y las escenas sexys son muy bien dibujadas. No hay escenas explícitas, no es la categoría del manhwa, aunque al parecer la novela web posee. No estoy seguro de esto, es una consideración que establezco por los últimos capítulos que leí.
La trama muestra la debilidad de ambos personajes, sus fortalezas y adicción al trabajo. Son personas únicas que están destinadas a estar juntas a pesar de los criterios sociales surcoreanos que los separan. Ambos son perfectos, pero ahora les toca enfrentar la batalla más fuerte: la aceptación de sus emociones, la divulgación y el reconocimiento de su amor.
