At the end of Avenida G, or Avenida de los Presidentes, in Havana, right by the sea, there’s the José Martí Sports Park — though most people just call it ‘El Martí’.
The view is always striking, and every time I pass by I feel the urge to take a photo. This one was taken on my phone just two days ago, on the 18th of February.
It wasn’t my original plan, but the Universe played its cards so that I ended up alone with the sea by the Malecón, that great wall running along part of our city. Once there, I decided to record my way back home with my little AKASO Brave 4 camera, and here it is, shared as part of this post in response to the "quirky" Sunday ChitChat questions.
One of these days I’d like to film the ride down the big hill of Avenida G as well, maybe with a bit of casual chatter to go with it. There are so many thoughts that cross my mind while I’m pedalling…
Here go my answers:
One good reason—or several—that could convince someone who’s sleep deprived to go out cycling at six o’clock on a Sunday morning…
At the end of the route you’re going to win a million dollars. Haha… I died laughing!
You might think I come up with the questions already knowing the answers, but that’s not the case. This one just popped into my head. And now I’m also thinking, for example, that the strange thing about this whole million‑dollar idea is that everyone wants it, but almost nobody (I’m sure of it) has thought about what to do with it once they’ve got it… That’s because they don’t really believe they could ever have it, right? And this applies to so many things we wish for in life. Don’t take my word for it, but it seems the key is to organise everything down to the finest detail, and to create a canvas of that vision — one painted, of course, with the brightest and most beautiful colours.
Have you ever fallen asleep on a bicycle, or do you know someone it’s happened to?
Being honest… oh my Universe, this time I really did think about the answer, and I mentioned it very briefly at the end of the video — so you can see what I think there. Everything is possible, everything is possible…
Say you had to do a challenge to save someone’s life, and it meant cycling 300 km or more—where would you head off to, and why?
I live on an island that stretches 1,250 km from Cape San Antonio to Punta de Maisí, and I’m based in Havana, our capital. From here it’s about 350 km to Cape San Antonio. Heading the other way, to reach Punta de Maisí you’d have to cover 1,045 km — that’s a much bigger challenge. But if it were about saving someone, I’d go all the way there too.
I think the place doesn’t really matter — it’s the goal that counts in this case. For me it would be simple: right or left. So I don’t mind whether it’s one way or the other. I wouldn’t even reach 300 km going north or south, since Cuba is only about 191 km at its widest point and just 31 km at its narrowest.
