Parents are the biggest example for their children. How parents behave in front of their children is the most important factor in shaping up a child's personality. If a child is exposed to violence and mistreatment in the house, they will find it very normal when they grow up and probably they will also treat their own family in future in the same manner. Violence or mistreatment may not directly happen to them in their childhood, but they may just watch it, like a father being bad in behavior with the mother. If the child sees all the time that the father is disrespectfully taking with the mother, for the child it will become a very normal behavior. May be the child may also behave the same way with the mother and in future with their own spouse.
If they see a women physically getting abused they may also end up in situations like rape, because they have seen such things happening and they would find it normal. Especially for Sons, it is so important that the parents show the right behavior all the time and teach them the values of respecting women. They should be taught gender equality in all ways and for that they need to demonstrate also at home.
In Indian homes, majorly it is considered that the woman is supposed to do all the house work and the man does the earning. Even if the woman is working, still she needs to manage the household chores. This is wrong, when both the partners are working to earn then even the house activities should be distributed equally. If the child does not see these things happening at home, then whatever is the thing going on, he or she will pick up that only. When children grow up, they do have a mind of their own, and not necessarily everyone follows the conditioning but the % that starts having their own understanding is still small. Also it can happen that their behavior will be of convenience, so whatever is in their interest they may change for that but other things may continue as is.
I believe that if children are given the right values in their growing up with demonstrations, half the crimes in this world will end, especially the rape cases and household female violence and abuse.
