Hello Hive
I'm so excited about the coming week, as my neighbor's baby will be celebrating 🎉🎉🎉 her one-year birthday anniversary. The exciting part for me is that I will be the one to design all the outfits for her birthday. It is one of the sewing contracts I get that makes me really happy. First, I get to make a few boxes from sewing for the cute baby girl and also get to celebrate her birthday with her.
She is such an adorable baby, and her mother has selected about 7 sets of outfits for me to sew for her.
I will be making both traditional wear, a ball dress, a corporate outfit, and some pretty girls' outfits. These outfits will be used for the birthday photoshoot, and we want her to have a different
appearance in them all.
For this morning I will be starting with the palazzo trousers she would be using as a corporate outfit.
Step-by-step cutting and sewing process
The materials needed to sew a palazzo trouser are simple.
African print fabric
The 1 elastic band
Matching threads
First I started with cutting the front block. Fold the fabric in 2 and use 13" for her full length.
I measured the waistline and used a crotch depth of 5.5", where I measured out the hipline and added an extra 1.5".
Next I connected the line and cut out the front block.
For the back, I placed the front block on another folded fabric and added 1.5" extra to the crotch and seam allowances, then I cut them out.
The pocket was next. I have used a 5" width of fabric on the fold with an 8" depth to cut the fabric to cut the pockets.
Measuring out 1" by 7" along the side seams of the front block, I created the pocket sitting where I will sew in the pocket to the front block.
Next was sewing. I started first with stitching the pockets to the front block. After that was well fixed, I joined this to a back block and then stitched the hem, folding it in using the 2" hem allowance added earlier.
After stitching the two legs separately, I proceeded to join them together at the crotch allowance.
Having cut a 2.5" band, I sewed it to the waistline; this is where the elastic will be sewed into the outfit. We often use more elastic for babies' outfits instead of zippers. The elastic will be able to stretch and contain their size, however much they add weight or not. Zippers are often used for adult clothing.
Elastic has now been inserted into the palazzo pant, and it is such a beauty already. She will be wearing this with a ready-made top.
This is my second time sewing baby trousers, and I'm glad for the privilege I received to do this.
The first trouser I have sewn have a lot of mistakes, but this came out better than I expected and has become a form of learning and earning at the same time for me.
