The Long Walk

To the Lake!
I thought that title looked familiar!

The ducks we hatched earlier this year are coming along nicely. In the end, we got 4 Aylesbury ducks - 1 male, 3 female (The First Five) + 2 Runner ducks - both male, and one mixed-breed - also male.

The First Five

We're hoping to get some females at a later date, whether we hatch them or buy them is not decided yet.

The Runner Ducks

We also have 4 chickens, 2 male, 2 female.

Plus the Hei-Hei flock of 1 mature rooster (soon to be knows as 'Stew'), 2 mature hens and a collection of chicks - estimated at 3 males, 4 females (we hope).

When we get sorted out and organised, the runner ducks will have their own flock, the Aylesbury ducks will be one flock, and the chickens will have a new rooster. Hei-Hei is too aggressive to have loose, so one of the four we hatched this year will take over that flock and the other rooster will stay with the 2 hens.

We also plan to keep the boys together at the stables as a 'Bachelor flock'.

We're planning a duckpond at the bottom of the original veg garden and the new 'Kitchen Garden' is coming along nicely.
Until then, this is what we'll have to do for now:
