A veil lifted

A veil lifts from our eyes, a truth laid bare—ours to see, to accept, to reject.
A political circus, designed to distract, to entertain, to misinform, to divide.
In this new landscape, words lose all meaning—
placeholders for post-hoc rationalizations,
laced with escape routes for good measure.
Not months ago, we thought we knew a terrorist:
now, keying a Tesla might earn you the badge.
The political teams don’t care to clear the waters;
they thrive in the muck.
Behind democracy’s veil, they’ve metastasized—
into comfort, into power, into exclusivity.
Their lives, their very existence,
so distant from us—
the common folk, the working folk, the tired folk.
“I’ll save you, only I can do it!”
shouts a man, red tie brushing his knees.
“Someone who listens!” we cry back—
confused, entrapped, desperate.
The analysts toil, spinning tales for our digestion,
our viewing pleasure.
They dictate what to think, how to feel,
who to hate, who to love.
They labor to fake intellectual rigor,
serving shadows whose agendas we’ll never know.
In this reality—this dystopian reality—
we’re told to be brave, to stop whining,
to lift ourselves by bootstraps
some of us don’t even own.
Blame shifts from oppressor to oppressed,
from aggressor to victim.
“If you fail, it’s your fault alone,” they say.
And we nod, compliant.
Crabs in a bucket, clawing each other back in.
But some see the bucket, the rigged game—
speak out, propose alternatives,
unafraid of labels: extremist, idiot, terrorist.
Opting out of the false dichotomy
leaves us few allies, if any.
Fence-sitters, morally corrupt, useful idiots—
Insults or projections?
Reactions spat without reflection.
The shadows watch from a safe distance,
loving the show
while we, the performers,
pretend not to know.

Afterword: Where did this come from? I really don't know. I was sitting on my computer this morning feeling frustrated. The last two days after the "Signal Leak" of the War plans, has pulled me into deep cynicism.
I wanted to believe it wasn't that bad, but who am I kidding here? We know its even worse.
But all will be swept under the rug, because that is precisely how it always goes.
