A cordial greeting sewing lovers, I am glad to find in Hive a place to share my experiences making simple pieces, I tell you that I am a novice in sewing, however always open to learn a little more, so I am happy to share in this space, I hope to learn from the experiences of other users and improve more and more. This is my first publication here.
To be honest, I made this blouse last December, it took me a week because I was making it little by little, it has its details but for me it has been a great joy to be able to make the pattern, to make it, it will always have a special place in my closet because I made it myself. In this publication I will limit myself to the sewing part, by way of anecdote I tell you that I received an old sewing machine as a gift from a very dear aunt some time ago, I did not know how to do anything on it, my aunt guided me a little but at that time I did not have time, I was busy with my work as a teacher, so I was not very interested in it for a while.

I am now retired and I am taking up again activities that I could not do before, such is the case of sewing. In December I bought fabric in a very popular store here in Margarita, called “El Castillo”, a very nice design and I said to myself: You are going to make your own clothes! Well, I copied a basic pattern of blouse that I already had at home, folded the fabric in two and placed it inside out and then adjust the patterns with the pins, mark with chalk leaving 1 cm and proceed to cut.
The blouse model (55 cm high by 45 cm wide) is sleeveless and with round neck, I made modifications when cutting the neck, so I could adjust it and it would fit me well, this kind of blouses seem fresh and comfortable given the weather on the island. Once the pieces were cut, I tried to zig zag stitch it with some mishaps, since the idea was to sew the edges and then fold and stitch it straight. The machine made a tremendous noise when zig zagging, later with the days I would realize that I was not using the correct needle (90-100), the fabric is thin, I didn't know needles with ball point but well... novice stuff.

If any of you fellow seamstresses can or want to give me some suggestions on how to sew the zig zag better, so that I feel more comfortable with this old brother machine, I would appreciate it. I continue, after the zig zag, to the two pieces on each side (back and right) I joined with straight stitching. I folded over the sides of the siza and went straight stitching. Of course as I went along, I tried on the piece, in the end it was necessary to make a modification, this was my creative test. I cut a strip of fabric 7 cm high by 92 cm wide, repeated the zig zag process to avoid fraying and attached it to the blouse with a straight seam, in the end it turned out better and I was able to solve the mishap.
Something important to note is that I always ironed the pieces trying to work better. I wanted to put buttons on it but I didn't have the piece for it. As I mentioned at the beginning, this piece will always be special, I have continued practicing and with each piece there are funny anecdotes to tell, I am not ashamed to share them because I think that everyone who has experimented in sewing has had this happen to them. My enthusiasm remains, I am still learning, so there are more experiences to tell, until next time.
