I am very excited to share this set of street photographs with you for a very personal reason, and that is that I finally realized a goal I had for a very long time as a street photographer, and that is that I finally managed to overcome my fear and went to the midtown of my city to take street photographs.
I must show you this first photo to put you in context:
Estoy muy emocionado de compartir con ustedes este set de fotografias callejeras por una razon muy personal y es que por fin hice realidad un objetivo que tenia desde hace muchisimo tiempo como fotografo callejero y es que finalmente logré superar el miedo y fuí al centro de mi ciudad a hacer fotografias callejeras.
Debo mostrarles esta primera foto para ponerlos en contexto:
The midtown of my city is a very urban, chaotic, and full of life place. I have always known that it has a lot of potential to take very good street photographs, BUT there is also a much higher risk that someone could steal my camera since I live in Venezuela and this is not a very safe place to walk around with such expensive equipment in hand... However, I had always wanted to do it and I mustered a lot of courage and did it with fear but I did it!!
El centro de mi ciudad es un un lugar muy urbano, caotico y lleno de vida, yo siempre he sabido que tiene muchisimo potencial para hacer unas fotografias muy buenas PERO tambien existe un riesgo muchisimo mas alto de que alguien pueda robarme la camara ya que vivo en Venezuela y este no es un lugar muy seguro para andar con un equipo tan costoso en la mano... Sin embargo, siempre lo habia querido hacer y me armé de muchisimo valor y lo hice con miedo pero lo hice!!
I took these photos TODAY and went straight to edit them so I could share them with you. At the time I took the photos it was raining, so I took advantage of the weather to take many photos where people came out with umbrellas. That was the most repetitive element in this day of photography.
Estas fotos las tomé HOY mismo y llegue directo a editarlas para poder compartirlas con ustedes. a la hora que tomé las fotos estaba lloviendo asi que aproveché el clima para hacer muchas fotos en donde las personas salieran con paraguas, ese fue el elemento mas repetitivo en esta jornada de fotografía.
I parked my car in a safe place and walked the 4 blocks around where my car was to have some way of escape in case something happened. I was willing to run to my car and leave.
I had a hoodie on and carried my Canon RP camera with a 50mm lens in the hoodie pocket. I also had an umbrella to protect myself from the rain.
Estacioné mi carro en un lugar seguro y caminé por las 4 cuadras alrededor de donde estaba mi carro para tener alguna via de escape por si algo pasaba estaba dispuesto a salir corriendo hacia mi carro y irme de allí.
Tenia un hoodie puesto y llevaba mi camara Canon RP con un lente 50mm en el bolsillo del hoodie, tambien tenia un paraguas para protegerme de la lluvia.
Every time I saw something interesting, I quickly took the camera out of my pocket, took the photo, and in a matter of seconds I put it back to avoid people seeing me walking with a camera in my hand.
Cada vez que veia algo interesante rapidamente sacaba la camara del bolsillo, hacia la foto y en cuestion de segundos la volvia a guardar para evitar que las personas me vieran caminando con una camara en la mano.
I didn't ask permission to take any of the photos and I had very little time to frame. Everything was pure instinct and speed. I took the photo and kept walking.
No pedí permiso para hacer niguna de las fotos y tuve muy poco tiempo de encuadrar, todo fue puro instinto y velocidad, hacia la foto y seguia caminando.
On the sidewalks of the midtown there is a lot of informal commerce, there are many people selling all kinds of things:
En las aceras del centro hay muchisimo comercio informal, hay muchisimas personas vendiendo todo tipo de cosas:
I even photographed a dog that was asleep on the sidewalk:

The following motorcyclist was covered with a rain poncho and had parked to hide from the rain:
El siguiente motorizado estaba cubierto con un poncho para lluvias y se habia estacionado a esconderse de la lluvia:
For me, taking these photos was quite an adventure full of emotions. I hope you found them as interesting as I did!
