This question "Why are you here?" simply posit that every human has a purpose for being here on earth. As I pondered the question, I was reminded of the Catholic Catechism's question "Why did God make you?" According to the teachings, the answer simply says that;
God made me to know Him, love him, serve Him in this life, and to be forever happy with Him in the next.
This answer implies that the idea behind human's existence is to show forth and communicate God's glory, to share in his goodness, and beauty.
Moving away from that, in the Bible book of Genesis 1:27, it clearly reveals that
Man was made in the image and likeness of God."
Meaning that;
Man is the embodiment of God's glory, goodness and beauty.
Since this is the case, this suggests that our service to God while here on earth is toward our fellow man, who is the god we see. This is to say that man's purpose is tied to his relationship with a higher power and his responsibilities towards himself, others and the world around him.
Every one of us has a distinct role to play in this world.
For me, I've come to understand that I'm always drawn to helping others, whether it's in the area of volunteer works, helping strangers or simply being there for friends and family.
I've had countless experiences that point to this. I'll share just a few.
One particular experience that stands out was when I canceled my holiday trip to accompany my sister-in-law to the hospital for the birth of her baby, my niece. I was there to support her through the delivery and stayed with them until they were discharged.
Being there for them during that vulnerable time, providing support and care was a privilege, and I still cherish that moment till date. That experience was only but a reminder that I'm here;
To show up, support, care, and make a difference in the lives of my loved ones and those around me.
Another experience was when I allowed a friend, who was facing accommodation challenges to stay in my house while I was away on a months-long trip. I felt that having him stay there while he works on getting his own place was the least I could do for a friend. What's the use of locking the place up, leaving it to collect dust and cobwebs when there was someone in dire need of it.
Having experienced these and more, I had no doubt that my purpose is geared towards being present for others and making a positive impact in their lives. Whether it's through my work, relationships, or other areas, I'm propelled to be a source of support, inspiration, and love.
I won't end this post without talking about my being here on Hive. Honestly, being here was out of necessity, for a way to better my life financially and otherwise. Today, I'm grateful that things are aligning, I can take care of my needs and that of family and equally save up something for the future.
Adding to that was the desire to learn, unlearn and relearn. Hive is a school and every post or story shared here has something meaningful to teach. Reading these stories have offered me opportunities for personal growth and development.
I won't forget the need to make new friends and form warm connections. I've been privileged to meet wonderful souls here, some of whom have become a part of my life. I've enjoyed their support and encouragement and equally reciprocated in various ways too. Some days ago, I published a post about attending a workshop which a friend here on Hive organized. The event was a huge success and I was happy that my presence and support made an impact at the event.
I'll be wrapping up by saying that my existence is a journey of discovery, growth, and connection. I haven't figured all the details out yet, but I'm counting on the universe to let them bare to me.
Before then, I'll continue to align myself with my inner drive, letting my purpose and passion guide my path forward.
I strongly believe that being here is all about – "learning, finding meaning, building relationships, being there for others, and leaving my name in the sand of time."
Thank you for reading.
