I understand this is not a usual actifit post but I am thinking of taking the opportunity to post this while we were still visiting my dad, clocking in the steps and treating my mom and myself something really nourishing and energy replenishing during my dad's stay in the hospital.
Bringing mom to see dad with a wheel chair because the distance was too far and the last time my mom walked this stretch her knees were hurting for many daysFor those who saw
my previous post, yes, my dad was fighting for his life with high fever when he fall into septic shock after bleeding for almost 12 hours while waiting at the ER after his fluoroscopy procedure went wrong.
But before I share with you how he ended up suffering septic shock and hospitalized, I just wanted to share a less stressful and mother-daughter kindle moment after taking my mom to visit dad.
It was truly a heartwarming moment, although they had a huge row before hand up to the point that marriage counselling was needed, but when dad was really sick, true love shines; that even they despise each other's bad behavior at times, but like a lovers-quarrel, there are ups and downs in a marriage, most important is that they are still there for one another; especially they are coming to their 55th wedding anniversary soon.
That, I assured you, my mom deserves a reward of a day off, just enjoying some nice warm peaceful dinner, with no washing afterwards.
We went to our favourite Q House Restaurant, where I usually order a mini hot pot and share with my mom; this time because of exhaustion and lack of sleep, we needed "additional boost" just to keep carrying on strong especially when my mom needs to take care of my dad especially when he is discharged.
We ordered a special rolled out meal called Ginseng Cordysep Chicken Soup, instead of a normal herbal soup, we added the "additional boost" of raw (farmed) ginseng and cordysep which is supposed to help the lungs as well.
Mom has been crying so much worrying I know her energy has been really draining off so much, and what is better than a pot of warm soup?
I took the rice insteadBecause mom is very sensitive to rice starch, I have to order an extra bowl of hand pulled noodles (Ramen) for her, while I finish off the bowl of rice with a bit of minced meat at the top.
Needless to say this pot of comfort food can be easily made at home with my mom's skillful cooking, but today is her day off and well deserved rest. Moreover we can try to taste what are the ingredients inside so that next time we can mimic it.
Ginseng is usually quite simple to identify, but for the first time I finally know what Cordysep flower is. Usually my mom will use its "wormy look roots" as part of the soup, but the fungus itself was said to have cancer fighting properties, although I already know that it is one of the lung strengthening ingredient.
However, besides talking all "healthy and foodie", seeing mom enjoying a peaceful dinner even in a restaurant was worth every dollar spent there.
I promised my mom when dad gets better and discharged, we will go there and have a peaceful dinner together.
We even ordered a dessert to share, which is unusually served chilled because it is not the usual "Tofu fa" (soy curd) topped with coconut brown sugar syrup and ground peanut.
Best part of the experience was, when we were heading there for dinner, knowing usually it is really hard to park and my mom started praying asking Jesus to give us a favoured parking space so that my mom doesn't have to walk too far to the restaurant, we were granted a space just a door away. That truly have sparked her excitement and appetite, which money cannot buy.
