Throughout our trip through northern Argentina and later in Bolivia, we had the opportunity to visit a number of accommodations. Due to our travel budget, we always looked for the cheapest option and even camped to cut costs. However, as we neared the end of our trip, we were feeling comfortable with all our savings, mainly because gas and food were so cheap, so we were able to treat ourselves to a little luxury by staying at a beautiful hostel. It was located high on the mountain, from where we had great views of Samaipata and also enjoyed a very hearty breakfast 😃.
Durante todo lo que duró nuestro viaje en parte del norte de Argentina y posteriormente en Bolivia, tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar un montón de alojamientos. Debido a nuestro presupuesto viajero, siempre buscábamos la opción más económica e incluso acampamos para abaratar costos. Sin embargo, ya casi llegando al final de nuestro viaje estábamos bien con todo lo que habíamos ahorrado, principalmente porque la nafta y la comida eran muy baratas, así que pudimos darnos un pequeño "lujo" en forma de estadía en un hostel hermoso. Se trataba de un alojamiento en lo alto de la montaña, desde donde pudimos tener unas buenas vistas de Samaipata y también disfrutamos de un desayuno muy completo 😃.
Some people say they don't like sleeping in a bed other than their own, but when you live a nomadic life, you get used to sleeping anywhere. During these trips, any house becomes your temporary home. Finding nice accommodations is a plus for the whole experience, although sometimes even bad accommodations end up being memorable. But when we were in Samaipata, we found a hostel with very good reviews that wasn't that close to the center, but since we had a car, we were able to get there without any problems. Well, after getting lost for a while in the mountain roads, we arrived safe and sound 😃.
Hay gente que dice que no le gusta dormir en una cama que no sea la suya, pero cuando llevas una vida nómada te acostumbras a dormir en donde sea. En lo que duran estos paseos, cualquier casa se vuelve tu casa temporalmente. Encontrar un alojamiento lindo es un plus a toda esta experiencia, aunque a veces incluso los malos alojamientos terminan siendo memorables. Pero cuando estuvimos en Samaipata encontramos un hostel con muy buenas reseñas, que no quedaba tan cerca del centro pero como teníamos el auto pudimos ir sin problemas. Bueno, después de perdernos un rato en las calles de montaña llegamos sanos y salvos 😃.
Traveling with Guest M, I realized that foreigners use the
Hostelworld app a lot on their nomadic trips. In Argentina, we don't use this app much, perhaps Booking.com a little more, but we tend to communicate directly with accommodations via WhatsApp or by phone. Perhaps being in a foreign country, it's more convenient to book accommodations through secure platforms and not rely so much on verbal reservations. Additionally, these platforms offer the option to pay by credit card, which is more convenient if you don't handle local currency 😃.
Viajando con Huésped M me dí cuenta de que los extranjeros usan mucho la aplicación Hostelworld en su viaje nómada. En Argentina no usamos mucho esto, quizás un poco más Booking, pero nostros acostumbramos a comunicarnos directamente con los alojamientos vía Whatsapp o llamando por teléfono directamente. Quizás al estar en un país ajeno es más cómodo reservar los alojamientos por plataformas seguras y no confiar tanto en la reserva de palabra. Además, estas plataformas dan la opción de pagar con tarjeta de crédito, algo que resulta más cómodo si no te manejas con dinero local 😃.
Browsing Hostelworld, one of the best-reviewed accommodations was
Hostal Serena. It looked great in the photos, and although it wasn't the cheapest of the bunch, we could afford it since we'd saved quite a bit in the previous few days. At the time, the hostel was running a three-night discount, so that's how long we stayed there, taking the opportunity to explore the surroundings of Samaipata. For each night in a double room with a private bathroom, we paid about 230 bolivianos, or about $35. This was more than the double of what we paid at all the previous places, but the hostel was so nice it was worth it 😃.
Navegando en Hostelworld, uno de los alojamientos con las mejores reseñas era el Hostal Serena. En las fotos se veía muy bien, y aunque no era el más económico de todos, podíamos permitirnoslo ya que habíamos ahorrado bastante en los días anteriores. En ese momento, el hostal contaba con una promoción de tres noches con descuento, así que ese fue el tiempo que nos quedamos ahí, aprovechando para conocer los alrededores de Samaipata. Por cada noche de alojamiento en habitación doble con baño privado pagamos unos 230 pesos bolivianos, alrededor de $35. Esto era más del doble de lo que pagamos en todos los lugares anteriores, pero el hostal era tan lindo que lo valía 😃.
The hostel's price was also justified by the good breakfast we received while we were there. It included the classic infusions such as tea or coffee, milk, fruit smoothies, fresh fruit, pastries, butter, toast, pancakes, and scrambled eggs. Starting the day refueled with all that food was a great thing for us, as we liked to do a lot of trekking. We never started our days too early, so we took our time to have a leisurely breakfast and then go somewhere for a walk ❣️.
El precio del hostal también estaba justificado por el buen desayuno que nos dieron mientras estuvimos hospedados. Este incluía las clásicas infusiones como té o cafe, leche, licuados de frutas, frutas frescas, dulces, mantecas, tostadas, panqueques y huevos revueltos. Empezar el día recargando energía con toda esa comida era algo muy bueno para nosotros que nos gustaba hacer un montón de trekking. Nunca empezábamos nuestros días muy temprano, así que nos tomábamos nuestro tiempo para desayunar cómodamente y después salir a algún lugar a pasear ❣️.
I was really pleased that my past self had been prudent enough to set aside money for this impromptu trip. In the end, I was able to do much more than I expected, being in Bolivia, which was definitely not something I had planned. Being able to stay in a beautiful place like that also made me very happy, and we also had the opportunity to meet other travelers with whom we exchanged experiences. Plus, the owners of the place were a couple—a Dutchman and a Bolivian woman—so you can imagine that after so many months traveling in South America, Dutch-Guest M had someone to speak to in her native language. Going to that hostel was a good decision all around ❤️.
Me gustó mucho que mi yo del pasado hubiera sido tan prudente como para tener dinero guardado para este viaje improvisado. Al final, pude hacer mucho más de lo que esperaba, estando en Bolivia que definitivamente era algo que no tenía planeado hacer. Poder hospedarnos en un lugar lindo como ese también me hizo muy feliz, y también tuvimos la oportunidad de conocer a otros viajeros con los cuales intercambiamos experiencias. Además, los dueños del lugar eran una pareja de un holandés y una boliviana, así que se imaginarán que después de tantos meses viajando en Sudamérica, el holandés Huésped M tuvo con quien hablar en su lengua materna. Ir a ese hostal fue una buena decisión por todos lados ❤️.
