Happy New Year to all my fellow travelers! It's incredible that 2026 is finally here. I wish you all a year full of travel and new adventures to continue discovering the world. In the meantime, I want to share with you my trip to one of the Argentine provinces I hadn't yet visited. It's Santiago del Estero, precisely while touring the city of Termas de Rio Hondo, one of the last on my list, perhaps not as touristy as some others, but it still had its charm ❤️.
Feliz año nuevo para todos, amigos viajeros. Es increíble que el 2026 finalmente esté aquí. Les deseo a todos un año lleno de viajes y nuevos paseos para seguir descubriendo el mundo. Mientras tanto, quiero seguir compartiendo con ustedes mi paso por una de las provincias de Argentina que me faltaba visitar. Se trata de Santiago del Estero, precisamente en la ciudad de Termas de Río Hondo,una de las últimas en mi lista, quizás no tan turística como otras, pero que igualmente tuvo su encanto ❤️.
2025 was a great year for me because I was able to fulfill my travel dream of visiting all the provinces of Argentina. I completed the final leg by visiting the last four provinces I had left to explore, starting with Santiago del Estero, in the northeast of my country. This trip was very special and carefully planned, since, unlike previous ones, I traveled as a guest, paying for my own accommodation. This forced me to search for the best prices everywhere, and in Santiago I found a modest hotel with a private room, bathroom, breakfast, dinner, and access to a thermal pool for only $20.
El 2025 fue un gran año para mí porque pude completar mi sueño viajero de conocer todas las provincias de Argentina. El último gran tramo lo hice visitando las últimas cuatro provincias que me quedaban, empezando por Santiago del Estero, al noreste de mi pais. Este viaje fue muy especial y planificado, ya que, a diferencia de los anteriores, viajé como huésped pagando por mi alojamiento. Eso me obligó a buscar los mejores precios de todo, y en Santiago encontré un modesto hotel con habitación privada, baño, desayuno, cena y pileta termal por solo $20.
As with previous trips, I quickly met a new friend with whom I spent the three days I was there. While I enjoy traveling alone, I'm also open to sharing trips with others, and in this case, I was lucky enough to meet Carina, who had already been to the city and showed me around a bit after dinner. Although it had been over 35 degrees Celsius during the day, it cooled down considerably at night.
Al igual que en los paseos anteriores, en este no tardé en conocer a una nueva amiga con la que compartí los tres días que estuve ahí. Si bien me gusta viajar sola, tambien estoy abierta a compartir el paseo con gente, y en este caso tuve la suerte de conocer a Carina, quien ya había estado en la ciudad y me llevó a recorrerla un poco después de la cena. A pesar de que durante el día habian hecho más de 35 grados, a la noche refrescó considerablemente.

The city of Termas de Río Hondo isn't widely known among mainstream Argentine tourists, but it's still popular with those seeking a peaceful place to relax. It retains its small-town charm while offering the amenities of a larger city and all the comforts for a pleasant stay. I'd been eager to visit this city since 2024, when I was living nearby in Catamarca and had planned a trip, but ultimately didn't get the chance.
La ciudad de Termas de Río Hondo es una no muy difundida entre el turismo mainstream argentino, pero igualmente visitada por los turistas que buscan un lugar tranquilo para descansar. Todavia conserva su alma de pueblo, pero sin perder el lujo de una ciudad grande y con todas las comodidades para una buena estadía. Estaba muy ansiosa por conocer esta ciudad desde el 2024, cuando estando muy cerca en Catamarca habia planeado ir, pero al final no tuve la oportunidad.
As always, I hadn't done much research about this place, so I discovered everything on the spot with the help of my new friend. My impression of this city was that it caters to older tourists looking to relax in an all-inclusive hotel: food, relaxation, a pool, and entertainment without having to go anywhere. Furthermore, the city center offered even more entertainment, such as casinos, restaurants with live music, and city tours, while the outskirts offered some natural areas to explore. In short, if you're looking for a peaceful trip without too much hassle, this is the perfect place.
Cómo siempre, no había investigado mucho sobre este lugar, así que descubrí todo in situ y con la ayuda de mi nueva amiga. Mi impresión de esta ciudad fue que esta orientada a un turista mayor, que busca descansar en un hotel que tenga todo incluído: comida, relax, pileta y show sin tener que moverse. Además, en el centro de la ciudad había aún mas entretenimiento, como casinos, restaurantes con música al aire libre, city tour y en las afueras, un poco de naturaleza para visitar. En resumen, si buscas un viaje tranquilo sin mucho sobresalto, este es el lugar ideal.
Personally, I'm not a big hotel fan, but I couldn't find a hostel in this place that would have provided a kitchen during my stay. However, this was more than compensated for by the included breakfast and dinner. There was literally a hotel every few steps in this city, of varying categories and for all budgets. The one I chose was one of the cheapest, but it was clean and served its purpose of being comfortable and having good internet access. Another important point about this city is that it's located beneath a thermal water reservoir, so almost all the hotels have a pool filled with water from this aquifer. Whether you're looking for something more luxurious or not, going somewhere to enjoy a hot bath is practically a must.
En mi caso, no me gustan mucho los hoteles, pero en este lugar no conseguí un hostel para disponer de una cocina durante mi estadía. Sin embargo, esto estuvo compensado por el desayuno y la cena incluida. Literalmente en esta ciudad habia un hotel cada dos pasos, de distintas categorías y para todos los presupuestos. El que yo elegí era uno de los más baratos, pero estaba limpio y cumplía su función de ser cómodo y tener buen internet. Otro punto importante de esta ciudad es que esta bajo un reservorio de agua termal, por lo que casi todos sus hoteles tienen una pileta con agua de este acuífero. Con más o menos lujos, es casi obligatorio ir a un lugar a disfrutar de un baño de agua caliente.
When I say this city is geared towards retirees, I'm basing it on what I saw while walking through its streets. Most of the tourists were groups of older people, but with an unmistakable energy. In fact, my new friend Carina was in town working as a singer in the hotels, and she herself confirmed that year after year, the main visitors to this city are people over 60. I felt a bit young among them all, but I still enjoy relaxing hotel plans with a pool and dinner show without having to exert myself too much.
Cuando digo que esta coudad está orientada a las personas jubiladas, me baso en lo que vi mientras caminaba por las calles de ahí. La mayoría de los turistas eran contingentes de personas mayores, pero con una energía inconfundible. De hecho, mi nueva amiga Carina estaba en la ciudad trabajando como cantante en los hoteles y ella misma pudo confirmarme que año tras año, los principales visitantes de esta ciudad son gente de más de 60 años. Me sentí un poco joven entre todos ellos, pero igualmente me gustan los planes tranquilos de hotel con pileta y cena show sin tener que hacer tanto esfuerzo.
Our nighttime stroll allowed me to make the most of my first day in the city, right down to the last minute. As we walked, I spotted the city tour bus and thought it would be a good idea to take it, since I wasn't planning on spending much time there, and it would be nice to see a bit of everything in one trip. I was so excited to be exploring my 20th province after so much planning with my spreadsheet full of itineraries and budget: seeing the final part of my #travelgoal come to fruition felt incredible ❤️.
Nuestro paseo nocturno me sirvió para aprovechar mi primer día en la ciudad hasta el último minuto. Mientras caminábamos, había visto el bus del city tour y pensé que sería buena idea tomarlo, ya que como no planeaba estar mucho tiempo por ahí, me vendría bien ver un poco de todo en un solo paseo. Estaba muy emocionada por estar conociendo mi provincia #20 después de tanta planificación con mi excel lleno de itinerario y presupuesto: ver materializado el viaje final de mi #travelgoal se sentía increíble ❤️.
