Un Árbol de Navidad diferente/A Different Christmas Tree (Esp-Eng)

Hoy amaneció con una temperatura fresca, semi invernal en La Habana, y temprano en la mañana estaba pensado que comunidad escoger para mi último post del 2025, y entre las tantas que hay en este fascinante universo de Hive, la primera que vino a mi mente fue esta. Así que, sin buscar más, heme aqui para compartirles esta reflexión.
El lunes tuve que hacer un trámite y cuando entré al local donde sería atendida, vi algo muy singular, original y hasta sui generis, diría yo. En un rincón de la oficina, encima del minibar, había un árbol de Navidad que desafiaba la tradición. No estába adornado con super luces centelleantes o guirnaldas plateadas ni con ninguno de los brillos, colgaderas o adornos convencionales.

Today dawned with a cool temperature in Havana, semi-wintry, and early in the morning I was thinking about which community to choose for my last post of 2025. Among the many in this fascinating Hive universe, this was the first one that came to mind. So, without looking further, here I am to share this reflection with you.
On Monday I had to run an errand,and when I entered the place where I would be served, I saw something very singular, original, and even sui generis, I would say. In a corner of the office, on top of the minibar, there was a Christmas tree that defied tradition. It was not adorned with super twinkling lights, or silver garlands, or any of the conventional glitter, tinsel, or ornaments.
Su belleza, profunda y serena, residía en su curiosa ornamentación. El árbol en sí era un pedazo de una rama de palmiche seca, llena de muchos pequeños papeles de colores suaves, atados con delicadas cintas de hilo, que pendián de sus ramas. Cada uno de esos papeles contenía, escrito a mano, hasta donde pude ver, el nombre de un sentimiento noble o una actitud luminosa y positiva del ser humano.
Its beauty, deep and serene, lay in its curious ornamentation. The tree itself was a piece of a dry palm branch, full of many small papers in soft colors, tied with delicate thread ribbons, hanging from its branches. Each of those papers contained, handwritten as far as I could see, the name of a noble feeling or a luminous and positive human attitude.
Este es el "Árbol de los Sentimientos y las Actitudes", me dijo la amable joven que me atendió. Yo misma lo hice, agregó. Sé que no es tan bonito como uno original pero se me ocurrió hacerlo ya que no había posibilidad de tener otro, aseguró muy satisfecha. Pero no solo contiene las cosas buenas, también hay papelitos con sentimientos y actitudes negativas, cada cual se queda con las que quiera en su vida, continuó diciendo la muchacha.
This is the "Tree of Feelings and Attitudes," the kind young woman who helped me told me. I made it myself, she added. I know it's not as pretty as a real one, but it occurred to me to make it since there was no possibility of having another, she assured me, very satisfied. But it doesn't only contain the good things, there are also little papers with negative feelings and attitudes, each person keeps the ones they want in their life, the girl continued saying.
A mi me pareció una excelente iniciativa la suya, pero ni me percaté de lo negativo porque no me interesa. La idea en torno a este árbol es simple pero fuerte y poderosa. En lugar de pensar en regalos materiales, las personas que lo ven, como yo, toman un momento de quietud para leer los papelitos, eligen uno, como yo, o dejan que uno los elija a ellos, y se llevan consigo esa palabra como un propósito o un anhelo para el año entrante.
I thought her initiative was excellent, but I didn't even notice the negative ones because I'm not interested. The idea behind this tree is simple but strong and powerful. Instead of thinking about material gifts, people who see it, like me, take a moment of quiet to read the little papers, choose one, like I did, or let one choose them, and take that word with them as a purpose or a yearning for the coming year.
Este pequeño pero gran árbol representa una metáfora perfecta del espíritu navideño porque trasciende lo comercial para aterrizar en lo esencialmente humano. Y a pesar de tener algunas lucecitas, sus adornos, los papelitos, no se encienden con electricidad, sino con la luz interna de cada visitante. Cada papel es un llamado a las cualidades que nos permiten conectar, sanar y crecer como individuos y como persona.
This small but great tree represents a perfect metaphor for the Christmas spirit because it transcends the commercial to land on what is essentially human. And despite having a few little lights, its ornaments, the little papers, are not lit with electricity, but with the internal light of each visitor. Each paper is a call to the qualities that allow us to connect, heal, and grow as individuals and as persons.
El "Árbol de los Sentimientos y las Actitudes", me regaló una pausa para pensar y reflexionar. Sus ramas, cargadas de palabras esenciales, nos recuerdan que la mayor riqueza que podemos cultivar y compartir está en nuestro interior. Este árbol, simple y sencillo, me recuerda que la Navidad, en su esencia más pura, es una celebración de la bondad, la conexión y la capacidad humana para reconocer, materializar y poner en práctica estos sentimientos elevados.
The "Tree of Feelings and Attitudes" gave me a pause to think and reflect. Its branches, laden with essential words, remind us that the greatest wealth we can cultivate and share is within us. This tree, simple and plain, reminds me that Christmas, in its purest essence, is a celebration of goodness, connection, and the human capacity to recognize, materialize, and put these elevated feelings into practice.
Este arbolito no compite en cuanto a belleza con otros, sino en cuanto a significado. En sus ramas, la "Gratitud" se mece junto a la "Esperanza"; La "Compasión" conversa con el "Perdón", mientras que la "Generosidad" brinda su calor al "Respeto". Las palabras "Alegría", "Paciencia", "Empatía", "Solidaridad", "Amor" y "Paz", cuelgan como frutos maduros, listos para ser cosechados en el espíritu de las personas de bien.
Les cuento que la palabra que escogí o me escogió fue: PAZ. Y paz es lo que más deseo para este año que llega, que terminen las guerras en este planeta nuestro y las personas puedan vivir sus vidas tranquilas, felices y con dignidad.

This little tree doesn't compete in beauty with others,but in meaning. On its branches, "Gratitude" sways alongside "Hope"; "Compassion" converses with "Forgiveness," while "Generosity" offers its warmth to "Respect." The words "Joy," "Patience," "Empathy," "Solidarity," "Love," and "Peace," hang like ripe fruit, ready to be harvested in the spirit of good people.
I'll tell you that the word I chose,or that chose me, was: PEACE. And peace is what I most desire for this coming year, that the wars on our planet end and people can live their lives peacefully, happily, and with dignity.
