I remember my mom's fascination at large fern trees. She would ask me stuff like "How long will it take to grow like that?" or "Can they grow in the province?". Of course I didn't know the answer. She says, it shows how clean the place is and how the plants are preserved.
In the province, people burn parts of the mountains to make charcoals. It saddens my mom but can't really do much because it's part of their living. She once signed a petition to stop those burning trees on a mountain near our farm. The patrol said to stop then when caught but they continue to do it. They do it at night when noone is awake.
