Imagining My Retirement Years

Honestly, I never thought I would be answering this particular question at this time, mainly because I am still a student. I have not even really started working, so thinking about a retirement plan feels a bit too early. But then, if I am to imagine retiring at the usual retirement age of 60, what would my life be like?

Sixty years is definitely a very long time, and by that time, I hope I would have lived a good and fulfilled life. I would also be getting close to old age. My mum is about 64 now, and she has been showing some signs of ageing, like having eye problems. So, by that time, I believe I might start witnessing some changes in my body, too. However, I sincerely hope that I will still be very healthy and strong enough to do a lot of things for myself without depending too much on people.

My mum’s sister worked with the government, and she has retired for some time now. She has been collecting her pension regularly, and part of what she used the money for was buying land, which later brought her a lot of profit. In fact, that is one of the investments that really helped her financially. She also opened a shop right in front of her house where she sells different kinds of things. Through this, she still has a steady source of income even after retirement.

I am not saying that I will do exactly the same thing she did, but the aspect where she invested her money in land is something I would really like to consider. This is because I might want to use the land for farming practices, especially considering my background as an agriculture student. In fact, i had a consultation with one of my friends recently, where he said his father already retired as a civil servant and is currently into farming. This was even one of the things that motivated me. I believe having my own farmland by that time would not only serve as a source of income but would also keep me active and engaged instead of just staying at home doing nothing.

Apart from investments and financial stability, I also have personal plans for my retirement years. One of them is travelling to certain countries. Dubai is one of the places on my mind because of its beautiful scenery. I have always admired the environment and the structure of the country, from what I have seen in pictures and videos. I believe visiting such a place at that stage of my life would be a dream come true for me.

So, even though retirement still feels very far from where I am now, I believe it is a stage of life that should be planned for. By the time I reach 60, I hope to be financially stable, physically healthy, and emotionally happy. I want to have investments that will still be bringing in money, a peaceful environment to live in, and enough time to do the things I love, like farming and travelling. Most importantly, I want to look back at my life and be grateful for how far I have come.

Thanks for reading.
