"REST IN PEACE"
The evening's swelter gave way to a cool night,
as the fiery sunset blanketed the horizon.
The soothing winds waffled in the breeze
carrying Mom's command.
"Come rest Savannah!".
Refresh the soul for our long journey south.
For tomorrow's not guaranteed."
Savanna unwrapped her shawl, sighed heavily,
then turned toward the sunset for one last gaze.
For one long moment, the wind of the coming night stood still.
You scared me, Momma." I replied, quivering, then scouring
the landscape searching for more.
"Where's Papa and Beni?" I ask with a deep-set frown.
Momma remained quiet. Savannah could trace fresh tears
streaming down her mother's face.
Red eyes bulged, while eyelids blinked rapidly.
She jerked her head away.
With her back to her daughter, she explained as much she could.
"You've grown into a lovely young lady, Savannah.
But still innocent in the evil that men acting on their self-interests do.
Papa and Beni no longer walk with and guide us.
We must venture to a place of unrest.
We must settle among people not our own.
And, we must do it alone with haste.
Assimilation will not be easy, if at all,
and will come at great cost to our heritage.
No other choice presents itself."
But those things which I speak are for the morning's worries.
Tonight, rest in peace, my darling daughter.
To Rest. I didn't know the concept until I was forced to slow down and care for my own well being. I hoped to capture this state of current being in my mixed media art project.
To blend the images, I used Canva, my design program.
- with a blank, white canvas, I added the female's photo;
- repositioned to a horizontal position as though lying down, then removed background;
- added grass with sunset in background;
- added the flower petal; removed background and placed behind female's head;
- added the moon and flower;
- resized all; then completed project.
The images I included are all free-sourced, except the pure fractal I created in Apophysis 2.09.
