Una noche de "consortes"
Marlon tiene 20 años y la salud de quien se siente invencible. No era de fiestas, pero esa noche sus "consortes" del barrio —como decimos en buen cubano— lo presionaron. Entre invitaciones y esa insistencia que a veces se vuelve obligación, Marlon aceptó ir al club nocturno. No sabía que estaba caminando hacia su propia sentencia.
A las 2:00 a.m., bajo la penumbra de una calle a una cuadra del club, el ambiente se rompió. Carlos, un conocido que parecía estar bajo los efectos de sustancias, se abalanzó contra el primo de Marlon. Marlon, confiado en la amistad que los unía, intentó mediar.
La respuesta de Carlos fue una navaja.
La primera puñalada alcanzó el brazo izquierdo de Marlon, cortando una vena vital y deteniendo el pulso de su mano. La segunda, un "picotazo" en la cabeza mientras Marlon intentaba dar la espalda para huir.

A night of "consorts"
Marlon is 20 years old and has the health of someone who feels invincible. He wasn't one for parties, but that night his "consorts" from the neighborhood—as we say in good Cuban—pressured him. Between invitations and that insistence that sometimes becomes an obligation, Marlon agreed to go to the nightclub. He didn't know he was walking towards his own sentence.
At 2:00 a.m., under the darkness of a street one block from the club, the atmosphere broke. Carlos, an acquaintance who appeared to be under the influence of substances, lunged at Marlon's cousin. Marlon, confident in the friendship that united them, tried to mediate.
Carlos' response was a razor.
The first stab hit Marlon's left arm, severing a vital vein and stopping the pulse in his hand. The second, a "peck" on the head while Marlon tried to turn his back to escape.
