Hello beautiful people with creative minds, this is my first post here and I’m super excited to finally be identified as a crochet artist.
I started my crochet class and lessons in December 2024 and here we are in January, 2025. I've been able to make my own Scrunchie, beanie, shrug, headband and bralette. It has been my lifelong dream since I was very little to master the crafts in crochet and actually make beautiful pieces out of it.
I stopped making things out of yarn totally after I lost my small crochet hook in secondary school. Fast forward to now, I’m so unstoppable and I know that my childhood self is super proud of me.
Today, I’ve decided to share how I made my bralettes.
Colors: Blue and White.
Tools needed:
Yarn, 13 mm hook, a pair of scissors, stitch marker.
Since I’m still learning, I made use of acrylic yarns.
I had to make the cups of my bralette one by one then make the base before finally making the strap.
To make the bra cup:
I’m making a medium size bralette so I began by making 15 chains. Then I made a double crochet into each chain till I reached the 14th chain and into the 15th chain, I made three (3) double crochet in it. I used a different colored stitch marker to mark the middle double crochet.
However, I continued fixing a double crochet around the chains without turning my work. When I reached the end, I chain one (1) and then turned my work.
I made a double crochet in each chain until I reached the marked middle double crochet in the 15th chain where I did another three(3) double crochets and then I continued my work with a double crochet around the chains till I reached the end again. I crochet one(1), turned my work and repeated the same cycle until I had made 12 chains.
I crochet the second bralettes cup and moved on to the base.
I wanted something really cute so I crochet my base such that it gives room for my straps to make a cross at the back.
How I crochet my bralettes base:
Firstly, I made a chain 12 and this chain number determines how closed up the back of the bralette would be. Then using a single crochet, I continued by joining the chains with the bralette cups. I joined them one after the other beginning from the 13th chain.
When I reached the end of the second cup, I chained another 12 to match with the beginning of the base.
The interesting thing is that the single line base could work on its own but because I wanted that cross back that looks like I tied a lace, I went ahead to expand my base and make the loops.
To expand the base and make my base loops:
I skipped three chains and into the fourth chain, I fixed three double crochets, skipped two chains and fixed another three double crochets. I continued to skip two chain, fix three double crochets till I reached the last chain.
I chained 4, began to fix three double crochets in each loop made from the last row till I reached the last loop.
This marks the second row. I crochet as far as five rows for a broad base ( my preference, you can make more or less).
To make my straps:
Like I said earlier, since I wanted a lace at the back, I better be ready to make a long strap and that was exactly what I did.
Starting from the middle double crochet at the top of each cup, I made a long chain of 250. And again, you can decide to make more or less.
Guess what? That’s the end of the making of my beautiful bralette. I trimmed out the excesses, tried it on and boom, I’m blown away.
I can’t wait to learn more from amazing creatives here.
