I saw a post from someone I follow in which they mentioned someone who stated that they would not rest until they had achieved their goals. Now I would like to interpret this "rest statement" as "oh, I wanted to keep working hard until I got what I wanted."
However, if it actually means "I will not sleep, I would burn midnight candles, and stay awake until I get it done," I would feel sorry for them because they are ignorant.
Most of life's accomplishments are fleeting; we plan futures for which we are unsure whether we will be present; we lay foundations with our blood as the bricks; and we do not even consider what our bodies will function on when the blood has finally built the foundation, but our bodies no longer have blood to function.
Free but priceless
Reminds me of the sacrificial death of Jesus
Many people underestimate the expensive but free gift of health; I use the term "free but expensive" because many people do not have the luxury of functional health.
However, I understand that accomplishments, successes, money, and many other things are the sweeteners of life, and that we sometimes need them to stay on top of things, but when we begin to exchange the gift we have (that was not earned or worked for), which is health, for something else, we will lose the former and the latter will make no sense.
Sleep is Man's most natural medicine.
It eliminates the risk of high blood pressure, which is a precursor to stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure. However, we often underestimate the importance of staying healthy until we aren't.
Growing up, I was on team "no sleep until I make money," which was apparently supported by the belief that sleeping was a sign of laziness. We had people say things like "burn the midnight candle," and there was not a single hardwork quote that did not cast doubt on the phenomenon of sleep.
I understand that most of these quotes are figurative or for emphasis, but many people interpreted them as literal statements.
Growing up, I worked multiple jobs, including some at midnight, and I only got four hours of sleep most nights. I did this for many years until my blood pressure began to spike
Being healthy appears to be one of life's simplest pleasures; however, if everyone was born healthy or remained healthy throughout their lives regardless of how they abused their bodies, I would argue that the body is meant to be used, overworked, stressed, messed up, or exchanged for riches, accomplishments, and wealth.
Unfortunately, many people are not born healthy, and many who were once healthy will lose their good health as a result of carelessness or bad luck.
Don't sell what you can not get with money.
Apparently, not everything in life is exchangeable; the key is to never exchange anything that money cannot buy for things that money can buy. Once you understand this, you are ready to go. Health cannot be exchanged for anything because living in the misery of poor health is the ultimate form of pain.
However, what do I know?
Perhaps I was not born with perfect health that allows me to set myself ablaze and shoot for the moon, which is why I am so upset that someone can choose to sell or exchange their perfect health for life's accomplishments and money.
In the grand scheme of things, why be overly cautious when we all die anyway? I believe this is a strong motivation that "no-sleep" motivational peddlers will appreciate.
Unfortunately, life is not intended to be fair.
Most of the time, we need to find an edge because life is so competitive, and if we can not outperform the other people on the leaderboard, what we have to offer will not be very effective.
There are people who are willing to give up their lives or do other unusual things to obtain unconventional wealth, and it is unfortunate that you have to compete with these people every day.
Yes, these issues are most likely why you need to devote more time, sleep less, and take on more jobs at the expense of your health; however, we cannot predict life with poor health.
The concept of vanity is best understood by those who have lost everything except their money. When you begin to see life as vanity, it means you have lost something extremely valuable that no amount of money can buy.
