The Things You Learn While On The Road...

This may not be the best title for the blog post I'm about to write, but after a very long day that's all I have tonight ;)
Honestly though, I had trouble coming up with something that pops as you will soon see, this topic isn't always a popular one but as a parent, I think it's important to talk about it.
We have a problem with today's youth, and I think I can comment on this because I had 16 years between my first and second child.
When my oldest son was born in 2001, cell phones weren't really a thing. Sure, he had access to it throughout his life but when he was around 5 years old, all he ever held was...A book.
Now fast forward to my two younger sons, born in 2017 and 2019 respectfully, it's the opposite. They have cell phones in their hands a lot. Now it's not that they are attached to the hip with phones and devices, but compared to my oldest kid, it's night and day.
My oldest son didn't have access to them because the technology wasn't that prevalent back then. However this evening I was reminded that....Parents always have a choice of what they expose their kids too.
O.K., I'm about to get theological...
Satan's devices...
Now I'm not saying the technology of today is 'Satan's devices' because everything can be used for good or bad. However, anything that keeps our kids away from God, is not something I want to be a part of...As a parent. I have a choice and I'm about to choose, what my kids have access to.
This evening I met a grandmother with her 2 grandsons come to my store. And we got to talking about how their parents raised these kids. I was amazed at how well versed the kids where in the bible, books and all around spirutal things.
And the grandmother told me, the kids dont have access to the 'devices' so all they have access to is...Books.
Kind of like my oldest son back in the early 2000's.
My younger kids are starting to get a love for reading and I really want to help them out as much as I can. And I think limiting their access to anything secular, is a win.
Now please note, this blog post isn't talking to parents that may not share my faith. I pray that you do someday look into a relationship with Christ but this is always about doing what we feel is best for our kids....
Reminds me of the bible verse my younger kids memorized a few weeks ago...
Prayerfully.
I hope to take this advice that King Solomon wrote for us about 3000 years ago...It still has a lot of value!
