If you know who said that verse that I'm using for the title of my blog post....I salute your music knowledge :)

And if you don't, we're going to have another 'story time wth Jongo' to help prepare us for the latest #bible911 post.

In my earlier years, aka when I was young and in the world, I was a HUGE music fan. So much so that I dabbled in the music industry as a career as both a writer and artist manager way back in the day.

If you know me, my favorite genre back then comes to no surprise. It was hip hop. And when people ask me who my favorite rapper of all time is....I actually draw blanks. Because I had so many. But ask me who my favorite female MC was and without a blink of an eye....I'll tell you Lauryn Hill.

Not the 'singing version' of Ms. Hill....For me, she was always the greatest female MC ever.

Now I can see you scratching your head and asking what does this have to do with God and the bible? Specifically Psalm 73 verses 21 to 26?

Remember, I'm in the world. I'm young. My favorite female artist growing up was Lauryn Hill and she does this song called 'Final Hour' on her masterpiece debut the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

This wasn't the most popular song on that album. It never had a video. And was never released as a single. Yet it was my favorite song on her album. So much so that there is a specific verse that she says in this song that has stuck with me...To this day.

"And I remain calm, readin' the 73rd Psalm, cause with all this goin' on I got the world in my palm"

73rd Psalm...What does that say?

Back then, this quote captivated me and I had to discover for myself why she quotes this chapter in the bible along with many other pieces of Scripture in the song.

The 73rd Psalm is absolutely fascinating. It talks about how the evil and corrupt people in the world seem to always win. And the psalmist shows envy towards them. While battling this from within, he realizes that God is all that he needs.

That is what he needs to focus on because he then learns what becomes of the wicked...

Some of the most powerful verses in Scripture are found here...Verse 17 being one of my personal favorites...

Remind me one day to do a study about the sanctuary :)

So back to young Jongo...Learning about the bible while living in the world lol

But it's crazy how God works....

Not only for the massive lesson within this psalm of keeping focused on God throughout everything life throws at you. But for me, it was something that made me open up Scripture. Even at a young age, the way it was presented to me made me want to learn more.

That's because God always goes to where we are.....And then we come to Him. I was in the world, He brought me out of it, now I seek Him daily!

Not a bad result from hip hop song out of the 90's...God works in many different ways!
