Splinterlands: Placement matters

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because of the order of the cards that I used.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Fog of War and Fours a Crowd. This means that only four monsters can be used, and all monsters lose their snipe, opportunity, and sneak ability. There is also 54 mana available, and I can use water, life, death, or dragon [splinter](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-splinter).

This battle is very interesting because some abilities don't work, and the high mana cap means that I don't have to worry about the mana cost. This is also a Frontier battle, so there isn't any extremely large mana monsters.

Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Marlai Singariel 6 Summoner +1 Magic
Great Bear Druid 9 1st
Lunaki Howler 7 2nd
Mystic Scaleweaver 9 3rd Slow
Saltwater Mage 8 4th
Total Mana: 39

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for its +1 magic. My tank is Great Bear Druid because it has both magic and melee monster. After that are three more magic monsters, and one has slow. Since there is Fog of War, things

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing enough damage. I placed the higher health monsters up front to ensure the damage piles up. Howler is before Scaleweaver because it deals less damage, but Saltwater is after because it has less health.

Round 1

At first glance, I can see that the opponent has the same exact lineup as me, but with two of the monsters swapped. I think that I have the advantage because Scaleweaver is before Saltwater Mage.

Round 4

round 4.png
Both of us are left down to two monsters. I expected this since we had similar damage. However, I have Scaleweaver before Saltwater, while my opponent has the opposite. With Scaleweaver up front, it will survive one round, but Saltwater from my opponent will die this turn. With that advantage, I should win this match without any issues.

I won that match a few rounds later.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. It was interesting to see that our lineups or strategy were similar, but I won because of how I placed my cards. It's always good to look at the ruleset too because it can help your decide how to set up your own lineup.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
