We are a tripod being composting of a body, a soul and a spirit. The body is the part that is seen. The soul is made of up your mind, your will and your emotions -- thus, dictates the body to act on how it perceives. The spirit is the closest to our Creator. It knows what is right from wrong, crafted to the image of God. The soul is the center between our flesh and our spirit. Whatever the soul decide the body will do -- no matter how the spirit disagrees with it. It determines what you are, depending on what you accept to believe in and practice. Your soul is affected by what yo hear, see and feel. Your soul is your heart. The center of your being that gives you the power to live according to what you ought. You have the gift of will. Even God cannot force you to do something that is against His word. Thus, makes you responsible for your own actions and doing.
