Estos días estaba diseñando esta cabecita de Camélido sudamericano. Comenzando con la alpaca. Se vé sencillo, aunque detrás hay bastante prueba, error y aprendizaje.
These days I was designing this little South American Camelid head. Starting with the alpaca. It looks simple, although there is a lot of trial, error and learning behind it.
This design is characterised by a natural color (ecru). On the other hand, Suri alpaca is known for its long fibres, as if it were wearing extra clothes. That's why I used a combination of different stitches, resulting in a texture similar to the original animal.
The yellow yarn has the function to indicate the number of stitches that are in the centre. This is to free the area of the eye and the distance between the eyes. I used to use graph paper and paint the squares with texture. The disadvantage was that the paper was in 2D (2 dimensions). Now, with the yarn I can make changes immediately.
When I design little animals, I feel that they are curious. At this moment I thought I had the head of a little lion in my hands. I just had to fix its mane and that was it, jaja.
...Of course, it was missing an essential feature of the South American Camelids, their huge eyelashes. I don't know if you've seen a real one, but I have. They stare you in the eye and pin their little ears back, or else they spit at you.
I have a few more challenges with this design, and one of them is to simplify the pattern so that you can replicate it from anywhere in the world...If you love alpacas, of course.
