Hello everyone, this is my first time posting in this lovely community, and well, I wanted to tell you that since we acquired this small 12-stitch electric sewing machine—which I must say isn't because it's gone viral on social media due to its size—the thing is, it's been very convenient and I've been able to sew various types of fabric without any problems. However, like any electrical appliance or work tool, these eventually need adjustments, maintenance, corrections, and especially repairs to maintain their efficiency and optimal lifespan. For this reason, I've been not only watching videos but also researching this model, since I'd noticed for some time that one of its main problems is the foot pedal and the bobbin winding, which often causes quite a headache in some cases.
Hola a todos, esta es mi primera vez publicando en esta linda comunidad y, bueno, les comento que desde que adquirimos esta pequeña máquina de coser eléctrica de 12 puntadas, que debo decir que no es porque sea viral en redes por el tamaño, la cosa es que me ha resultado cómoda y he podido coser varios tipos de tela sin problema, pero, como todo artículo eléctrico o herramienta de trabajo, estas llegan a necesitar ajustes, mantenimientos, correcciones y sobre todo reparaciones para así mantener su eficiencia y tiempo de vida óptimo y para eso he estado no solo viendo videos, sino informándome sobre este modelo, ya que desde un tiempo para acá me había percatado de que uno de los problemas principales de esta es el pedal y el tema del embobinado, cosa que suele dar bastante dolor de cabeza frecuentemente en algunos casos.
And that's exactly what happened to me with the pedal. Overnight, I started noticing that it would sometimes stop working or simply wouldn't function no matter how many times I tried applying pressure. So, after asking around and doing some research, I set about troubleshooting the problem. To begin with, these types of pedals are usually very simple, even having a connector similar to a headphone jack, and their wiring is quite thin. My first thought was indeed that some part of the cable might be damaged, but after confirming that wasn't the case, I proceeded to open the pedal. Luckily, it only has one screw holding the entire base together (because it's a simple model).
Y justamente el tema del pedal me pasó, ya que de la noche a la mañana comencé a notar que en ocasiones este se detenía en su uso o simplemente no funcionaba por más que intentara con diversos puntos de presión, por lo que luego de algunas preguntas e informarme un poco, me puse manos a la obra para revisar el motivo de la falla. Para empezar, este tipo de pedales suelen ser muy sencillos, teniendo incluso un conector parecido a los de los audífonos y su cableado es bastante deslagado, por lo que mi primer pensamiento en efecto había sido ese, que alguna parte del cable se hubiera malogrado, pero al comprobar que no era, me dispuse a destapar el pedal y, para mi suerte, este solo cuenta con un solo tornillo que sostiene toda la base (por lo de que son de modelo sencillo).
Even so, you have to remove it carefully with a Phillips screwdriver (I have a set that allows you to change the bits to the one you need), since internally it also holds a spring that allows the pedal to move up and down. You also have to be careful with the bottom part of the pedal, as it has a structure that allows it to fit together, and the slightest uncontrolled movement could break it because it's made of a rather thin material. Internally, besides the spring, it has two connections, which are the ends of the cables held in place by two small screws, one at the top and one at the bottom. Their function is that, when you press the pedal, these cables connect in alignment to enable the sewing function.
Aun así, hay que quitar este con cuidado con un destornillador de estría (yo tengo un set que permite cambiar las puntas a la que se necesite), ya que internamente también sostiene un resorte que es el que permite el movimiento de arriba abajo del pedal, así como también tener cuidado con la parte de abajo del pedal, ya que tiene una estructura para que encaje entre sí y, al mínimo movimiento descontrolado, podríamos partirlo, esto porque es un material algo delgado. Ahora bien, internamente, este, aparte del resorte, tiene dos conexiones, siendo estas las puntas de los cables sujetas con dos pequeños tornillos, uno arriba y otro abajo, y su función es que, al presionar el pedal, estas se unan de manera alineada y así poder generar la función de coser.
So, these parts sometimes loosen with use, and the method is to unscrew them if they're uneven or tighten them if they're loose, carefully making sure they're properly aligned. Then, close the pedal and fit the parts, adjusting the base screw so the pedal isn't completely closed. I mostly test this while it's plugged in to make sure it works, and of course, without winding the machine with thread. Once it's to my liking, I test its operation and make sure it sews without any problems. While I was at it, I also wanted to change the sewing needle, because I noticed the one I was using was a bit crooked, and although it sews very well, it's true that over time these needles need replacing due to wear and tear.
Por lo que en sí a veces estos suelen por el uso soltarse, y el método es desatornillar si están disparejas o apretar si están sueltas y con cuidado, fijándonos que estén bien alineadas, cerrar el pedal y calzar las piezas, así como ir graduando luego el tornillo base a modo de que no quede cerrado el pedal, y esto más que todo lo voy probando enchufado para ver que funcione y, claro, sin enbobinar la máquina con hilo, cosa que una vez esté a mi gusto, procedo a probar el funcionamiento y que este accione la costura sin problema, pero aprovechando también quise cambiar la aguja de coser, esto porque la que estaba usando noté que estaba algo torcida y, aunque cose muy bien, algo muy cierto es que con el tiempo estas ocupan cambio por tema de desgaste.
To do this, using one of the spare needles that came with the machine and changing the screwdriver tip to flat, I loosened the screw holding it in place (which wasn't very tight) and removed the needle to insert the new one, tightening it securely this time. I also took the opportunity to dust and clean the area where the thread spool goes underneath with a brush. Once that was done, I placed a spool of thread underneath and wound it on top to do a test stitch, which I must say turned out very well.
Para esto, ocupando una de las agujas de repuesto que trajo la máquina y cambiando la punta del destornillador a plano, procedimos a soltar el tornillo que lo sostiene (el cual no estaba tan apretado) y a sacar la aguja para enbonar la nueva y esta vez sí apretar bien. Así mismo, aproveché a sacar el polvo y limpiar un poco en donde va el carrete de hilo de la parte de abajo con una brocha y, una vez listo, coloqué un carrete de hilo abajo y enbobiné en la parte de arriba para hacer la respectiva prueba de costura, que debo decir salió muy bien.
While these machines have buttons for sewing without the foot pedal, I personally prefer using it for better control during the sewing process. As you learn to use this machine, it gives you constant monitoring of potential issues and helps you pinpoint their cause, which I really appreciate. I feel like I'm becoming more familiar with it each time I use it, to the point where I can completely disassemble and reassemble it myself for major maintenance. Y es que, si bien estas máquinas tienen unos botones para coser sin necesidad del pedal, desde mi gusto, con este se lleva mejor control de la costura en el momento; así como estás aprendiendo de esta máquina, nos da control constante de cada posible fallo y conocer dónde y a qué se debe, cosa que a mí me gusta mucho y siento que cada vez me familiarizo más con esta hasta que ya pueda desarmarla completa y armarla para un mantenimiento mayor por mí misma, por lo que de momento estoy satisfecha con lo aprendido.
