They are rumors
The headline of this article came from the memory of the title of a song made popular by Chilean singer-songwriter Antonio Prieto in the early 1970s. Prieto was also a sensation in my country then, especially among the fifteen-year-old girls of that time. The friend had a good look and sang well.
And that song spoke of rumors that come and go, like what's happening in F1 these days. Well, there have been rumors and false news about various topics related to the top category for a long time, something that generates expectation, anxiety, but also becomes tiring over time.
These days, the rumors about team changes just two races into the season have become practically unbearable, especially for Lian Lawson and Jack Dohan, who are their main targets. Also affected are third-party drivers like Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto, who have been brought into the spotlight once again. The Argentine driver certainly has talent, but there's a long way to go from there to someone sneezing and mentioning him for a debut at the next race.
Lawson's performance in these past two rounds has certainly been disappointing, the main reason being his own personality, which has led him to talk too much when it's always wise to keep his mouth shut, especially in this environment where he's practically a rookie and anything he says can and will be used against him. Adding fuel to the fire is the unpleasant situation that occurred last year with Checo Perez, who was ousted due to poor performances at Red Bull. They brought in someone who makes him reminiscent of him at every turn.
Remember that only a few practice sessions and three races have passed, two main races and a Sprint, but everyone has observed that the new driver has not performed well up to this point.
Then the rumors are gaining momentum, and there's talk that the Red Bull driver will be replaced by Yuki, who was probably the best option to partner champion Max Verstappen before the start of the tournament. However, the wrong decisions were made back then, and now the cure may be worse than the disease. These mid-season changes are also extremely dangerous.
The other rumor is about Jack Dohan: a wrecked car in Australia, poor qualifying, driving errors that cost him four Super Licence points in the first two races alone, mistakes motivated by silly but dangerous driving errors because when you go too far or make a desperate maneuver at 300 kilometers per hour, disaster is just around the corner.
And that's Dohan's main problem: he's desperate to show that he was correctly chosen, but he's making too many mistakes. To make matters worse, fans and the usual suspects have been exerting pressure on Colapinto since before the start of the tournament, and although the team has prohibited the charismatic compatriot from making any statements or gestures that could be seen as putting additional pressure on Dohan, the situation has turned very ugly for the Australian.
Finally, rumors and gossip are also circulating at other teams, such as Ferrari, where there is already talk of strategic errors in the planning and execution of the races, something that was thought to be a thing of the past. But no, they have returned with a vengeance in these two races, and now they have Hamilton, a legend in circulation whose word carries a lot of weight.
Antonio Prieto's song had the chorus:
They're rumors... rumors.
But, as my grandmother used to say, when the river sounds, it's because it carries water.
