@fermionico y
@fermionico-bob podamos realizar un foursome y disfrutar del golf entre amigos.
Mientras tanto, bienvenido Marco a uno de los más hermosos y adictivos deportes que el hombre ha creado, de aquí en más solo cabe mejorar.
Beginnings in golf
I remember many years ago, when I first tried golf, the experience was so powerful and exciting that I could never stop playing it, except for a time when, for various reasons that are not relevant here, I had to put away my clubs in a far corner of my house and also my heart, places and conditions essential for leaving behind something so strong that it refuses to hide in the heavy, dense fog of oblivion and indifference.
Of course, I returned, just as I had when I should have quit. The reasons I thought were so strong back then vanished as if they had never existed, and golf once again occupied an important part of my life, a place it should never have lost.
With Saturday's experience with my dear friend
@fermionico, the memory of those first days came back to me, and I saw in him such a strong enthusiasm that, I'm sure, it will never leave him; on the contrary, it will only grow with time. Welcome to this overflowing passion that takes us back to our youth, a golden age when we had a whole world to discover and enjoy.
Getting down to something more specific, and as I mentioned in a comment on your post about your first experience, I was surprised to see that
@fermionico, with just a few pointers from an amateur like me, was able to hit some excellent shots—very difficult, especially in those first steps.
And perhaps influenced by that early enthusiasm, I was very pleased with my practice. Except for the moments of hesitation and relaxation that are penalized in the first shots, I focused my mind on the fundamentals of the swing and ended up hitting with consistency and precision, something unusual among amateurs who only practice, if we're lucky, once a week.
Speaking of the golf swing, it's similar in timing and technique to casting an artificial fly, another of my favorite sports, flyfishing. It takes skill and a moderately refined technique to cast a creature made of hair and feathers, weighing less than a gram, 30 or 35 meters away and gently place it on the surface of the water, delicate enough to fool the fish into thinking that what has just settled on the surface tension of the water is an insect.
It's also similar to a baseball bat swing; a series of factors must come together: timing, technique, speed, hand and body rotation, arm extension, and accurate impact to get the ball out of the park—the same criteria as hitting a golf ball and sending it flying near the flagstick marking the hole.
I once read a phrase that has stuck in my memory: supreme moments of infinite bliss—that's what you feel when the fish is fooled or when the golf ball flies 100 or more meters to land near the flagstick marking the exact spot where the hole is located. I don't have that experience with baseball myself; Marco will surely clarify this point, although I think it must be the same feeling.
I can't wait for the time when my son-in-law,
@fermionico, and
@fermionico-bob and I can play a foursome and enjoy golf with friends.
In the meantime, welcome Marco to one of the most beautiful and addictive sports man has ever created. It only gets better from here.
