I was up at 4:45AM and got my post up. I have a bunch of Christmas DVD movies that don’t have cases so I decided to make cases for them so I could tell what they were. So I spent the morning doing that in between cleaning the kitchen, finishing the laundry, and opening packages that came in all day long. But the most important hasn’t come yet…
I checked the stock on the porch. The temp out there was 21F but the roasters hadn’t cooled enough overnight to harden the fat. I got what I could off. I left them over the morning in hopes it would cool more, but the sun came out and it started to warm up.
My helper friend arrived at noon and he brought in the big roaster container. We got that one done and only got 6 qts. The other one, smaller, gave 7 quarts just like last time. I think because of the limited space in the crockpot and stockpot we couldn’t put in as much water. So we only got 13 qts from half again as big batches.
We cleaned up the mess and he went to the store for ingredients for another butternut soup batch. I was doubling it because I’m taking it to the potluck at the Solstice party Saturday night. Once that was started he did a few chores. I helped some but I had gotten too exhausted and mostly ended up sitting down.
He left at 4:45PM and my brother needed me to go with him to get his car. I had to inquire into the cost of fixing the driver’s side window which will go down but not up in the cold. That will have to wait for repair until after the first of the year.
Even though it was dark, I kept my eyes on my brother’s car and made it home without killing anyone. I don’t know how people drive at night with those bright LED headlights. They are killers!
I was in bed by 8:30PM with a slow wood stove and no masonry heater. It’s supposed to hit 50F and rain all day on Friday.
My helper friend will be here in the morning as the company messed up the new person who would have come in the afternoon. That meant I could have gone to the exercise class in the morning. But alas, it’s not to be. I’ll probably work on the DVDs some more and he has several chores to do.
