My second son started elementary school this April, and so far, he’s been happily going every day.
He’s slowly starting to make friends and seems to want to play with them after school, but that wish hasn’t quite come true yet. The reason? They haven’t figured out how to “meet up” properly 😂
Recently, my second son has started going to the local children’s center. The day before yesterday, he invited a friend to go there with him after school. They agreed to meet at the school gate—but they didn’t set a time. So, my second son came home once, then headed straight back to school, but even after waiting 15 minutes, no one showed up...
The next day, he asked his friend about it at school. Apparently, the friend did go to the school gate, but only after my second son had already given up and left.
I told him:
“If you’re going to meet someone, you need to set a time. Like, ‘Let’s meet at the school gate at 3:00. If you’re not there in 5 minutes, I’ll go home.’ That kind of thing.”
Then today...
“I've made plans to see him again today!” my second son said.
“We’re meeting at the school gate, and I told him I’d wait five minutes and then go home if he didn’t come.”
“That’s good! So, what time did you say to meet?”
“...We didn’t decide on a time...”
“Wait, then how do you know when to start counting the five minutes?”
“...”
Now that I think about it, it was the same when my older son had just started elementary school. He’d make plans to play the next day, but they wouldn’t set a time or a place. This may be common in small children.
I hope my second son can start playing with his friends outside of school soon 🥺✨

この4月に小学生になった次男ですが、今のところ毎日楽しく学校に通っています。
少しずつ友達もでき始め、下校後にも一緒に遊びたいらしいのですが、次男のその願いはまだ実現していません。というのも、彼らはまだ「待ち合わせ」が上手くできないからです😂
最近近所の児童館に出入りするようになった次男は、下校後に児童館で遊ぼうと友達を誘いました。一昨日のことです。集合場所は学校の校門。しかし、肝心の時間を決めてこなかったのです。そのため、次男は一旦帰宅してすぐ学校へ向かったものの、15分待っても相手は現れず・・・翌日学校でそのお友達に尋ねたところ、どうやらお友達が集合場所に来たのは、長男が諦めて校門を去った後だったようです。
私は、
「待ち合わせるなら時間を決めないとね。校門に3時集合にして、『5分待ってこなかったら帰るよ』ってことにしたら？」
と次男にアドバイスしました。
そして今日。
「今日も約束してきたよ！」
と次男。
「校門に集合で、5分待って来なかったら帰るって伝えた」
「そう、集合は何時なの？」
「・・・決めなかった・・・」
「え？じゃあ、いつから5分待てばいいのか分からなくない？」
「・・・」
そういえば、長男が小学校にあがったばかりの頃もこんな感じでした。明日遊ぶ約束はしたけれど、時間も集合場所も決めてない、みたいな。小学一年生あるあるなのでしょうか。。
