How times have changed, sometimes I wonder how those changes creep in on us slowly at first and before you know it becomes a drastic change that feels like there is no hope of return.
Gone are those days when insecurity wasn't the highlight of every news, days where we could leave our doors ajar to go visit the market without giving it a second thought and everything remains intact upon your return, no intrusion or theft at all, gone are the days where moral values where held in high esteem by both the young and old, the days where hard work pays and there was no pressure to make fast wealth through illegal means like we see the current youth do today because we believed that hard work pays and it sure does mostly, but sadly it's a different case today, people who work hard are tagged not smart because hard work now pays meager sum.
Gone are the days when our naira and even kobo had value, with just a little amount Of money, you have peace knowing it will sort out basic needs, for instance, I look at the amount I spend just for snacks and biscuits for my kid, not including food, compared to my time as a child, I didn't dare think such amount would be spent on just biscuits, Imagine the difference between one kobo and hutndred naira, for the same biscuit, with their difference being time, to make it worst, the quality of things then isn't same as today, as the prices of things skyrocket, so does their quality reduce.

In the current Nigeria, we lack peace because even with a sizable amount at hand it is still hard to afford basic life needs, we are forced to work extra hard every minute of our life for everything, yet we work like an elephant and eat like an ant. Sometimes, I can't help but wonder if was it, not this same very country where we spent kobo and still had change left, prices of food and other commodities have increased beyond the imaginable, can we really go back?
It was painful when I heard about a family man taking his life due to the suffering and pressure of daily living, the cost of living is now killing the living, he was pushed to think of no better way out than this tragic path. If I could bring back those days when life wasn't as hard as it is now, I sure would, yes we've gained advancement in technology and all but only if we can still have this improvement and life doesn't have to be so complicated, maybe we need to redefine what success means to us, to focus on the things that truly bring us joy and fulfillment.
It's not going to be easy, but we owe it to ourselves and our future generations to keep striving for a better life, we don't want to imagine it getting worse than this, so let's keep pushing forward to bring back the peace, morals and financial value of the past one day at a time.
