Hoy les quiero compartir con ustedes de un proyecto tipo desafío que nos dejaron en clase para el fin de semana, como les he comentado en anteriores blogs me encanta la costura, mas no me considero una costurera pues reconozco que me falta mucho camino por recorrer y precisamente en eso estoy, paso a paso en este camino al crecimiento profesional en este oficio.
Volviendo al desafío que nos dejaron para el fin de semana, como la mayoría sabrá al comenzar un taller de patronaje y costura básica, siempre se comienza con camisa de dama o caballero según sea el caso, más nuestra profesora se salió de lo básico y como la mayoría de las que estamos en el taller tenemos cierto conocimiento en costura nos desafió a confeccionar una franela bicolor, luego de tenernos varios días en ascuas esperando cuál sería dicho desafío, el jueves al finalizar la clase nos dijo: "revisen el grupo de WhatsApp les acabo de enviar la foto para el desafío y quiero que combinen colores que no acostumbren a usar".
Today, I want to tell you about a challenge-type project our class assigned for the weekend. As I've mentioned in previous blog posts, I love sewing, but I don't consider myself a seamstress yet, as I know I still have a long way to go. That's exactly what I'm doing – taking it step by step on this path to professional growth in this craft.
Getting back to the weekend challenge, as most of you know, when starting a basic pattern-making and sewing workshop, you usually begin with a blouse or shirt, depending on whether it's for a woman or a man. However, our teacher went beyond the basics, and since most of us in the workshop have some sewing knowledge, she challenged us to make a two-tone 'franela'. After keeping us in suspense for several days about what the challenge would be, on Thursday at the end of class she said, "Check the WhatsApp group, I just sent a photo for the challenge, and I want you to combine colors you don't usually use".
Así que lo primero que hicimos fue irnos de compras en busca de las telas para nuestro proyecto, yo escogí tela Atlética la cual es cómoda, fresca y fácil para coser, en tonos verde oliva y rojo amaranto; al llegar a casa saqué mis patrones y cortar se ha dicho, como ya era algo tarde dejé para coser al día siguiente.
So, the first thing we did was go shopping for fabrics for our project. I chose athletic fabric, which is comfortable, cool, and easy to sew, in olive green and amaranth red. When I got home, I took out my patterns, and it was time to cut! Since it was already quite late, I left the sewing for the next day
Que creen al querer comenzar a coser, la máquina estaba de huelga, por más que intente no logré dar con la falla, así que tocaba llamar al técnico, que por suerte vive a tres casas de la mía, pero precisamente ese día estaba fuera de la ciudad y no regresaba sino en la tarde noche.
Se podrán imaginar mi frustración ya solo me quedaba la noche del viernes y parte del sábado, pues ya tenia compromisos para sábado y domingo y el tiempo era reducido, así que sin más comencé a coser a mano, uniendo las piezas delanteras a la trasera por los hombros.
Guess what? When I wanted to start sewing, the machine was on strike! No matter how much I tried, I couldn't figure out the problem, so I had to call the technician. Luckily, he lives just three houses down from me, but precisely that day he was out of town and wouldn't be back until late in the evening.
You can just imagine my frustration! I only had Friday night and part of Saturday left, as I already had plans for Saturday and Sunday, and time was tight. So, without further ado, I started hand-sewing, joining the front pieces to the back at the shoulders.
Seguido cosí las piezas del delantero, para seguir con las mangas; pero debido a mi problema con el túnel carpiano la costura iba muy lenta, lo que me tenía mas frustrada aún, pero como Dios nunca abandona a sus hijos el técnico me llamo a eso de las 6 de tarde y vi la luz al final del túnel.
Next, I sewed the front pieces together, and then moved on to the sleeves. But because of my carpal tunnel syndrome, the sewing was going very slowly, which made me even more frustrated. However, as they say, God never abandons his children – the technician called me around 6 in the evening, and I saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
Me entregó la máquina muy tarde ese día, así que ya solo que quedaba el sábado hasta las 10 de la mañana para coser, así que sin más puse pie en el pedal y a coser, repasé la costura por las que había hecho a mano.
He delivered the machine very late that day, so I only had until 10 am on Saturday to sew. So, without hesitation, I put my foot on the pedal and started sewing, going over the seams I had done by hand.
Seguidamente cosí las mangas y cerré por los laterales, luego cosí los ruedos tanto de las mangas como el de la franela, y finalicé pegando el cuello.
Following that, I sewed on the sleeves and then closed up the sides. After that, I sewed the hems on both the sleeves and the 'franela', and finally, I attached the collar.
Reconozco que el cuello no quedó muy bien, más quien dijo que todo sale bien a la primera, esto me sirvió de experiencia para seguir practicando, más me alegro que a pesar de los desafíos que tuve logré entregar mi tarea a tiempo.
I admit that the collar didn't turn out very well, but who said everything goes perfectly the first time? This served as experience for me to keep practicing, and I'm glad that despite the challenges I faced, I managed to submit my assignment on time.
