Hello, and welcome back as I explore the historic Moroccan city of Marrakech. In my previous post, I explored the El Badi Palace, which was built in the 16th Century by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur, a powerful ruler of the Saadian Dynasty. Although now just a hollowed-out ruin, his palace was once richly decorated and a great symbol of Saadian power after the consequential Battle of the Three Kings. This event saw three kings die in a single battle, and solidified Saadian Morocco as an independent state. In a way, the palace symbolized the rise of Saadian power, and my next destination is what remains of its legacy.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my journey through Morocco! I just arrived in Marrakech, one of Morocco's oldest and most famous cities. Marrakech was founded in 1070 AD by the Almoravid Dynasty, and much of the original buildings and infrastructure are still in place today. During its long history, the city has been an important hub for culture, religion, and trade. Similar to Fes, the medina (old quarter) in Marrakech is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, particularly for its well-preserved souks (markets), palaces, and historic architecture.

After camping in the desert around Merzouga and exploring the lush oasis at Skoura, it was finally time to say goodbye to nature and hello to a new city. My next destination is also probably one of the most famous in Morocco, Marrakech, a large and historic city, whose medina (old quarter) is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Welcome back to my wander around Skoura, a rare desert oasis on Southern Morocco’s famous Route of 1,000 Kasbahs. In my previous post, I discovered a ruined kasbah (fortress) beside a dry riverbed, likely destroyed by a violent flood from the past. Today, I take you back to the dry riverbed, as we make our way to Kasbah Amridil, the best preserved kasbah in all of Morocco.

Hello, and welcome back as I explore a lush palm oasis nestled in Southern Morocco’s vast sea of rock and sand, stumbling upon the ruins of a forgotten kasbah (fortress). After wandering through the main building, I came to a hole in the wall. Outside, I can see a hill with a few more structures at the top.

This is a franchise I have enjoyed since the PlayStation 2 days, but unfortunately, my first impressions of this much newer version on PlayStation 4 have not been exceptionally positive.
