Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on this time round is "Counterspell".

Counterspell

In a "Counterspell" ruleset, all monsters receive the Magic Reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy monsters that attack with magic receive damage back.

Naturally, one would avoid using magic units in this ruleset but there is exception which you would see in the battle below.

Lets take a look at a Wild ranked match with "Counterspell" as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Counterspell with a max mana of 40. Only Earth, Life and Dragon splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

TEAM SETUP:

Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Quix the Devious 4 Summoner I am not expecting to face Earth team in this match as no one would use Obsidian as a summoner in a Magic Reflect ruleset. Instead I am expecting to face just melee and ranged units so Quix as a summoner is an obvious choice for me.
Drybone Barbarian 9 1st Drybone Barbarian is a very powerful unit when it is damaged. This is because it has a very high base damage and has the Enrage ability. Once it is hit, its total melee attack will skyrocket. The only downside is it is not very defensive so it needs to be healed for it to survive the first 2 rounds.
Void Dragon 5 2nd Now usually I don't use magic units in magic reflect ruleset but because Void Dragon has Void, it doesn't have to worry about getting hit by magic reflect as Void will negates it. Furthermore Void Dragon is very fast and has the Flying ability making it extremely evasive against melee and ranged units.
Silvershield Knight 6 3rd I like Silvershield Knight because of its Inspire ability. Inspire would give me +1 attack to my melee unit.
Silvershield Assassin 7 4th This is my DPS unit. With Double Strike and Sneak, it works very well with Silvershield Knight as it will gain another 1 melee attack.
Dhampir Infiltrator 4 5th My 2nd DPS unit also with Double Strike and Sneak.
Venari Crystalsmith 4 6th My healer for my Drybone Barbarian and also a buffer tank to my DPS sneak units.
Total Mana: 39

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent did go for a Life team lineup with a mix of ranged and melee units. The summoner level is low as well so I am expecting a easy win here even though my opponent has a powerful tank, Shieldbearer.

End of Round 1:

After the first round, my opponent's Shieldbearer is almost dead. You can also see how much damage my Drybone Barbarian did, 9 damage and destroying the opponent's Chaos Knight's armor in 1 hit. This is crazy as Chaos Knight has the Shield ability and was given additional armor from the Truthspeaker, yet it still lost all its armor in one hit.

Also you can see my Void Dragon doesn't get damaged from Magic Reflect because it has Void ability.

End of Round 2:

In this round, the opponent lost 4 units to my strong offensive lineup. Double Strike with Sneak is devastating on the opposing backline.

End of Round 3:

Easy victory within 3 rounds without losing a single unit. My offense was strong enough to even keep my Drybone Barbarian alive.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy for this battle was to bombard the enemy backline with Sneak units as fast as possible while having sufficient power at the front to tank for a few rounds. It works quite well because Life and Dragon have sneak units with Double Strike. This strategy though wouldn't work well if the opponent put unit with Thorn at the back but since Death is not available in this match, I see less chances of a Thorn at the back.

SUMMARY
In a Magic Reflect ruleset, your opponent is almost certainly going to be using just ranged or melee units. This means high speed units with Flying, Dodge and Blind are likely to be able to dodge incoming attack. It is thus important to go for units with these abilities when choosing units to be deployed in this ruleset.

My guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is also looking for new members. For added incentive to joining us, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.
