My Favorite Topic

Okay, most topics are my favorite topic, but as someone with the stature and lifestyle of a Hobbit, I will say that food is pretty much my jam.
Yes, that was probably a slather too far, but I am fond of toasting myself.
Ugh, I will stop now.
Anyway, during my recent foray into the land of indulgence, AKA Sin City, AKA Las Cannabis, I got to partake in so many delightful things.
One highlight was the discovery of the most amazing Italian joint in the little strip mall across from my hotel, Amanos. We were going to have a pizza party in the hotel lobby for the team one night, so my son and Peasant (my affectionate name for one of the team members), reconned a bit for us and went there the night before.
It was then that we knew Amano's was someplace special.
To start with, they have half pizza, half calzones (the guys each ordered their own which caused a bit of a scene with the restaurant staff lol). You can also have the calzone half stuffed with pasta. They also have these things called Fat Babies, which are Italian Hero buns stuffed with pasta and slathered in melted cheese, served upright in a gigantic glass.
I was most intrigued.
Saturday, when I arrived at Amano's, I was in awe of how busy the tiny joint was. Fat Baby after Fat Baby sizzled by me from the kitchen as I waited to pick up our order. I also noticed a case of the most gorgeous Italian merengues sitting at the front counter and the dessert menu rocked my culinary vibe. There was lemon mascarpone cheese cake with blueberry compote and ricotta pistachio cannoli, all made in house. My heart was happy (And the pizza was some of the best I have ever had!).
Chicken and waffles is another culinary delight that I enjoy, and we found a place called Waffles Cafe by chance once afternoon after skeet. It was there I had my first sweet potato waffle stuffed with apple pie filling, topped with spiced pecans and whipped cream. Pardon me, I must memory drool a bit.
I also had my first mochi doughnut at Zippy's which is a Hawaiian restaurant and bakery. Our dear friends who live in Vegas recommended Zippy's. Let's just say I am so happy they did!
We ate Hawaiian plate lunches in gas stations, ate a medieval style roast chicken plate at The Tournament of Kings, sampled a goat cheese and beet salad extravaganza with our grandma, and of course visited our perennial favorite Vegas breakfast joint Egg Works. Twice.
I can still taste my pork carnitas and tomatillo sauce topped huevos rancheros!
And that's the thing. Even if you don't gamble or want to do all the things, Vegas is more than fun to visit for the eating scene. I have never seen more things to try and availability is just everywhere.
You can bet when the hubs and I are back there next year that we will be indulging in some more comestible wonders!

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's full of as many foodie pictures as farm animal scenes, iPhone.
