+1%

Yes, yes. Numbers. Everyone might have their own interpretation of "+1%". Some might express a distinctive meaning, some might not. Mine's not so different either.

Hi everyone! My name's Gelo and I'm a young software developer living in the Philippines. I recently joined this community and I'm looking forward to gain some new friends.

About me? I'm an introvert (INTJ). People always thought of me as a very serious person. A young man with a vision. Always looking far ahead (way far ahead than most people of my age do). People always tell me to have fun and stop being too hard on myself. It's hard for me to do so.. because life for me is a continuous battle; hence a motivation to improve myself more for each passing day.

So, going back to the "+1%", here's how I see it.

It is mathematically correct but I know that some of you might still disagree because it's not that completely applicable in real life. But for me, it's enough to keep me moving.

I tell this to my closest friends and the first thing they usually ask is, "How big should my 1% be?". It depends on you.

If you're a programmer like me, 1% is exploring an opensource library/module.

If you're a visual artist, 1% is drawing something like a specific part of a body, a landscape, a known place, etc.

If you're a chef, 1% is cooking a new recipe.

Really, there are a lots of ways for to achieve that +1% whoever you are. Read a book, do a research, listen to a podcast, watch a video, practice a skill. You'll be surprised to see how much you've improved and I promise you won't regret it.

How about you? What things do you do to achieve that +1% a day?
